Just curious...any other prospective '09ers who are conservative?

I'm an independent. . .that's probably closer to con. than you'll get from most. Are you a bush supporter?

No Conservatives! Poo poo

what a random question to be asking.

i would call myself a moderate liberal/democrat

are there any repubs at harvard

Republicans represent!

Actually, I'm a moderate-Repub in terms of politicians- Bush supporter on many issues (and especially compared to Kerry), but I did agree with Clinton on many economic issues.

However, I would consider myself an economic Libertarian, Laizzaie Faire (sp, definately) all the way! Foreign policy, sticky business, case by case basis rather than straight conservative/liberal.

very well put hunter...each case merits a non-partisan analysis. i would never support an issue on a "liberal" or "conservative" side w/o gettin all the facts...i find that irresponsible.

i was just wondering. if you're not political (i realize by now that a lot of people on the harvard board only care about getting in, which is sad), you don't have to come in here.

yes its a matter of fiscal responsibility for me. i'm not a huge bush fan but he was better than kerry for me in the end.

I totally agree with the non-partisan stance. . .

Yes there are Republicans at Harvard ... they have a huge organization - the Harvard Republicans is the name, I think.

but most lean left right?

Personally, I supported Kerry.Despite the results, I can respect Bush bc he is the president and thats a lot of power. I am turned off by the amount of personal attacks and "mud-slinging" in politics.
What absolutly irks me are the conservatives in my class who think Bush is too liberal!Of course, these are the John Deere wearning fellows who hate "illegals" and think America should bomb the Middle East with an assortment of nuculear bombs and such...so I don't give their opinions much credence. However, I can't seem to shake them out of my head as the iconographic Republican.

i am exactly the same as justice and hunter :)

Most students in general leaned left during the election - but I think that was more a reflection of disatisfaction with Bush than of people's overall political ideologies. I think the Harvard Democrats and Harvard Republicans are about equal in terms of membership so I can't really say what the student body is like as a whole. This IS MA and we ARE young, so if I was to take a wild stab, I'd guess that most people here have liberal tendencies .

I'm about as left as you can get in this country, though i'm not communist or socialist. Nearly all communism up to this point has been authoritarian, something that really gets on my nerves. I'd call myself a libertarian leftist, significantly more so than Kerry or Nader. I agreed with Bush on pretty much 0% of the issues. True, Kerry had some personality issues, but otherwise he was a pretty strong candidate. Then again, I live in the liberal part of MA, so not so surprising.

i still can't get married in my state. i lean (fall?!?!) left on same-sex marriage but appreciate what the repub.s are supposed to be good for--being fiscally conservative, strong foreign policy (though i don't know about iraq). I LOVE Andrew Sullivan--you've heard of him? Went to Harv for grad school and Oxford undergrad--

libertarian, but the party is a joke. support GOP/bush when they actually stand for what they're supposed to do.

sorry if im strawman-ing you, but your choice of label is pretty awkward:

phoenixrsi = idealist final stage of communism where there is no state/majoritarian authority required to coerce individuals. thats like ultimate mutual charity. not going to happen. how do you get to economic egalitarianism ie wealth redistribution without political non-egalitarianism? how do you collectively own property without stepping on individual property rights and expect them to produce? i dont see it happening, so being a libertarian-socialist anarchist ie noam chomsky is just contradictory.

I'm a Goldwater Republican

I'm a Republican...not thrilled by Bush, but he was better than Kerry.

(not EAing Harvard, but I am applying)
