Her speech is Wed. She is not dropping out.

I choose number 7. Peer pressure…

if she drops out, McCain is done. There is no way he will back out. He will look ineffectual, which is not his style.

McCain’s in a tough place–if she stays or if she doesn’t. I’ll bet Kay Bailey Hutchinson is looking better to him all the time, although I never heard her name mentioned much during the VP selection process; I wonder if she just wasn’t interested.

Unfortunately for McCain, he looks ineffectual now. At the very least, as several papers are reporting or opining on their op-ed pages, it really calls into question McCain’s judgement. These are not the stories he want circulating the day after Fred Thompson got up at the convention and talked about what he suffered as a POW.

Furthermore, this scandal about the poor, or non-, vetting shows up his campaign as liars. Here’s but one example from the Washington Post today:

This is not the way many of his loyalists see it. It could be that (perhaps most) people made up their minds, and are now interpreting the events (on both sides) in ways that justify their opinions.

Palin appeals to the base, which was already not voting for Obama. Moderates flocking on flight to safety/quality to Obama.

net result: Palin VP= Advantage Obama

GeekNerd,

Good analysis. Most people have probably made up their minds, based on more than the latest news blurb.

I have already made up my mind. Have you?

At least if she drops out she could maybe go home and home-school her children and raise her younger son by herself. She could also babysit her granchild while her daughter finishes her degree.

This is, however, the way Peggy Noonan sees it…and a lot of other commentators who are baffled by the choice.
