Hi new admits, I’m curious to see how yall feel about the most prominent issue on campus right now. While UCSD is known for its premier academics, its athletic teams have competed in NCAA Division II since 2000. In May (after the SIR deadline), we’re voting on whether to move to Division I and raise student fees by $480. Would you be more, less, or equally inclined to SIR to UCSD if the Tritons competed in the D1 Big West Conference?
If it heightens the chance of there being an actual marching band, yes please. I’m not too into sports but a lot of my extended family would happy to see me at a division I school. (That is, if I don’t get rejected today.)
@ruetherford as someone who’s at UCSD already and a former marching band lover, this was my exact reason for wanting D1 as well. However we do have pep band which is pretty cool too.
No, I am against it. No NCAA Division I school will get a huge investment off of it unless if they have football at the FBS level. I think UCSD should stay at Division II because it makes it a very unique UC in terms of that…and it could be a place for people who don’t want any kind of spirit/athletics in their campus.
