Thanks, go Tritons!

haha yeah man, sooner or later, it will be the next “USC of College Football”, producing stars like Polamalu and Seau

haha, yeah, for sure. I just hope I get to see them play sometime before I graduate.

How would this ever happen in the current economic climate? Not even at D3 would this get approval from the regents.

This is not a discussion arguing whether or not UCSD should create a football team in our current economic state. I am simply stating what I would like to see sometime in the future.

^Yeah, and who knows how quickly we recover from these bad economic times.

UCSDFan, You said you hope you get to see them play before you graduate. If I assume you are at UCSD now the probability of you seeing a football team is zilch.

RSBuletz, As stated before, I am simply stating what I would like to see. Nothing more. I acknowledge we might not see it sometime soon, but one can hope right? There’s nothing wrong with hoping.

I’m against a football team at UCSD, but that aside, I have difficulty seeing how it’d succeed.

The student body at UCSD lacks the type of people necessary to build a team.

Recruiting would be tough since the only thing UCSD has to offer is San Diego. I mean, it’s not exactly a party school, the selection of hot girls is better almost anywhere else, and the academic culture is unlikely to give football players the pass that might get them thru college at other schools.

Then consider all the facilities that would have to be built. If new land has to be acquired for a stadium, the stadium could hit $1 billion, especially if it was built to house a top-notch football team. The stadium would have to be on or adjacent to UCSD, otherwise games would suffer from poor attendance like SDSU gets at their games…although that may be partially due to their team being absolutely awful. The current gyms would have to be expanded AND/OR a new gym for football players would have to be constructed. Actually, a new gym would almost certainly be necessary because the nancies in the gym trying to build hot abz and fit better into their girlie skinny jeans would be offended and annoyed by serious hyped up men lifting heavy weights.

As to the stadium again, is the area around UCSD zoned for the noise a football stadium would create? Do the CC&R’s for houses and buildings around there warn buyers that there may be lots of traffic and noise due to sporting events at UCSD?

And finally, our cost of going to school has gone up about 1/3rd in one year, which was already piled on top of other recent increases. Do we really want to pay even more to support a football team when we’re attending a state-subsidized public school?

Anyway, if you really want a football team, I believe it’s in your best interest to consider these issues and start coming up with solutions and support for those solutions.

just become a lacrosse fan, its a way better sport anyway you already have a team, just if it were more popular it would actually be good again…or wait for when i transfer, then it will be good :D

Is there rugby?

yes^ also a popular spectator sport.
