Ladies and gentleman, this is a poll. Imagine you were born into an upper-class setting where you did not have to worry about money, you live in the richest neighborhoods, and you had many connections to industry and wealth.

Ladies - As a wife to a rich man, would you be a working mother or stay-at-home mother?

Guys - As a rich husband, would you want your wife to be a working mother or stay-at-home mother?

I would be incredibly bored as a stay-at-home. I do not enjoy that type of work, plus you'd be rich enough to have someone else do it, so you really wouldn't have anything to do anyway.

Were I in the situation you describe, I'd probably not pursue employment for pay (wouldn't need to), but I'd be very active in civic, political and other activities that benefit my community and my family and that utilize my talents to the fullest. Being free from the need to work for pay does not mean one should be idle. Instead, it would be a tremendous opportunity to pursue one's passions without the constraints of a time clock or a boss.

I believe that a stay at home mom would be desirable during the early years of a child such as from birth to five years old. I believe it is important to be with your child during those early years of development and learning. BUT, once the child enters school, a working mother would truly be noteworthy.

I would work...my mom has been home for the most part since I was 4 years old, and I know she'd be much happier if she was doing something she really enjoyed during the day. I'd like to have a big family, though, at the same time, so I'm not sure how I plan to juggle that yet, maybe stay home for a little while, but I definitely would go back to work.

I'm a mom who has never been "rich" in the monetary sense, but I chose to stay home to raise my children and returned to work after they were in high school and college. We sacrificed a few material things over the years, probably did not go out to eat as much as other families with two incomes, and yet, we somehow made ends meet and raised healthy and happy kids. Now that one is in college and the other is a year away from college, I know that I made the right decision to spend as much time creating a wholesome environment for them as I could by staying at home. I was not too tired in the evenings to check homework, play games, have discussions, etc. as many working parents are. They always had clean clothes and nutritious meals as well. I realized that I was not Superwoman and never tried to be by juggling a job and a family.

Now that I have returned to the workforce as a h.s. teacher, I'm not "burned out" like so many other educators my age. It's all newly exciting to me, and I simply LOVE working outside the home.

If I were a rich guy I'd like my wife to get off her ass and work for money instread of spending mine. Besides, I'd get a nanny to look after the kids, a cook, a maid, a gardener, a butler, a driver and another person to fil in for any other person who died/is sick, so there would be no work for my wife to do in the house anyway.

I don't know how my life would have been if my mom worked while I was a kid. I definately prefer it that way. Now we never eat meals on time and she is always angry and stressed out becasue of her job. But she has waited 18 years, so I guess a little work won't kill.

I don't like either options. I'd go back to college.

There are a lot of things I want to do, and so much opportunities for it in college, like research and such. Actually, I'd probably work and go to college.

i want to be a cardio thoracic (sp?) surgeon...but i also want to be one of those moms that never misses a piano recital or a soccer game....haha..we'll see how that works out

I don't want kids...but...if I was somehow convinced to have kids or just changed my mind, I wouldn't want to be a stay-at-home mother.

If money wasn't a concern at all...hm.

I guess, I'd want to work at my university in admissions or something else like that. The scholarship coordinator at my school did something really great for me during my senior year of high school, and I'd love to be in the position to give kids the same kinds of chances. That or just be one of the many folks there that go out to college fairs to talk to kids or help current students with various things.

I think that would be a lot of fun because I really love helping people make decisions.
