Hey everyone! I saw that there was a results thread and a discussion thread for Early Decision, but I’d like to get to know my fellow classmates a lot more. Consider this a discussion thread for the c/o 2020! Can’t wait to talk to all of you, and can’t wait to meet even more of you after Early Decision II and Regular Decision.
A little about me: Pomona has been my first choice since this summer, following my attendance at one of the Questbridge admissions conferences for College Prep Scholars. I can remember the Pomona student that encouraged everyone to apply during one of the panels, and it kind of stuck with me. I did some research, read the brochure, and was set. I loved the consortium, the class sizes, what I could glean from the other students about the atmosphere, and felt that it was one of the best liberal arts educations I could get. Pomona also felt very nurturing, which I love. However, I still saw it as a high reach, and started thinking that it should stay a dream. I wasn’t a Questbridge finalist, and I’d forgotten to rank Pomona, somehow (which I did kick myself for, in the days leading up to finalist decisions). Being a non-finalist was really formative because it led me to revamp my entire approach to the admissions process. The night after Questbridge results were released, I got an email from Pomona encouraging me to apply, and it also contained an application fee waiver. I took a couple of days to rewrite my personal statement from scratch, put my all into the design-a-class supplement, requested an interview, and sent in my application a few hours before the deadline (mentioning the essays because I really think those are what got me in). I was a little discouraged about how I stacked up against everyone else, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take (cheesy, I’m well aware).
I couldn’t be happier that I took that shot, because now, I’m making this thread! Beyond thrilled to be in the company of so many brilliant people, congratulations to you all.
What drew all of you to apply to Pomona, and what do you plan on studying in your first year?
