Hello! I’m a senior that was recently admitted into both Pomona College and Scripps College. I want to pursue the premed route, and wanted to know if there were factors that distinguished one from the other in terms of the premed route and acceptance into medical schools? I know that they have high rates of alumni who attend medical school, but if anyone knows other factors that can help me decide that would be great!
Pomona has one of the highest MD school admit rates in the country and Scripps is “merely” well above average - however - the best premed school is the one with the environment where you will do your best. Scripps is absolutely gorgeous (particularly its library) and it’s a great place to retreat from co-edness (if that’s what you want). Pomona is beautiful too, and probably a bit more diverse (if that’s what you want). Obviously, both are part of the 5Cs so the overall environment will be similar and you can take general classes all over, but chances are if you go to Scripps you will take most of your STEM classes at Keck Science (which is shared with CMC & Pitzer) and as a Pomona student you will take almost all your STEM classes at Pomona, where you will also have your advisor and the resources of Pomona’s Prehealth services. If you got into both, you’ll do great at either - and most importantly, you can still eat at any of the 5C dining halls!
