Pomona vs. Claremont McKenna

Which is best for Premed?

You should post this on each school’s forum.

For pre-med, they both are good choices. The stereotype is that Joint Science classes are easier, but in reality, it depends on teacher/class.CMC is part of Joint Science - it shares science resources with Pitzer and Scripps. Pomona science classes are excellent. Pomona students can cross register at Joint Science and CMC students can take Pomona science classes. 5C students can also take science classes at Harvey Mudd, which tend to be very difficult. Because it’s easy to fill your pre med reqs at any school you prefer, look at the culture of the schools and decide who you would want to spend your time with.

Also note that Pomona restricts students to taking a maximum of 1/3 of your total courses during the 4 years at the other schools, which is generally plenty. Pomona students also can’t major in something at another school. I don’t think CMC has either of those restrictions.

CMC is also economics/politics focused, and the student body reflects that. Pomona has a lot more pre med students than CMC.

Something else worth adding is that Joint Science has a limited, apply-only course called AISS that combines intro bio, chem, and physics into an interdisciplinary one year course. It’s supposed to be good and fulfills the pre-med reqs for most med schools.
