I have an alumni interview for Pomona on Monday. The interviewer emailed me asking to meet at a Cafe in the city in the afternoon. Since the interview is on a school day, I will be leaving school early to go catch the train to the city. With that in mind, I was wondering would it be appropriate to wear what I wear to school (nice jeans, clean, good fit shirt) to the interview since it is in a cafe? My guidance counselor said what I wear is appropriate and even said to all her students that jeans are okay. Do you think this would be okay? Or should I dress up more?

Also, should I bring a resume? And does anyone know how the interviews are usually held? Sorry for asking so many questions. This is my first interview, and I'm a little nervous.

No need to bring a resume. Wear clothing that’s comfortable and looks good - nice jeans will work. So will khakis. If you’ve got a young alum as your interviewer, s/he may also be dressed informally.

This will be the opportunity for you to talk about yourself and your interests in greater depth - especially info that isn’t included in your app. Also good to have some questions in mind that aren’t addressed on the website. Just relax and be yourself. And be sure to send a thank-you note (email will work) afterward.

I just had my alumni interview yesterday for Pomona! It was a lot less scary than I thought it would be. Both of us were dressed pretty casually (I wore black jeans and a nice-ish shirt) and met in a cafe. The interview itself was more like a conversation than an interview. The alum just asked me a bunch of questions about myself and the things I’m involved in, and I had time to ask her several questions too.
I highly doubt you will need a resume (I didn’t bring one).
My advice would be to prepare some questions to ask if you get a chance, and to relax and have fun with it.
I have had a couple of other interviews at other schools, but this was my first alumni interview, and it was way more laid back and enjoyable.
