For a career interest in finance, Pomona has the advantage of being a member of the 5C Consortium. Of course, the Economics department at Pomona is top notch, but students can also take classes in finance and accounting at Claremont McKenna College, which is renowned for its Government & Finance programs. As a big plus, Claremont McKenna is literally right next to Pomona, which makes taking classes there super convenient.
Additionally, campus recruiting from big companies usually means recruiting from the whole 5Cs. In the fall there is a “Finance Day” event on Claremont McKenna campus where recruiters from Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, etc. come and students from all of the 5Cs are welcome to attend. Last but not least, I cannot speak for Colby and Vassar, but the prestige from the Pomona name will carry tremendous weight when it comes to a field like finance. Also Pomona is the destination for top consulting firms if you’re interested in that. McKinsey has been actively recruiting Pomona students for the past years.
I’m a current student at CMC and will be working in investment banking in NYC at a bulge bracket firm this summer. I’m happy to answer any questions over PM to help you and your daughter learn more about finance recruiting at the Claremont Colleges from my own personal experience.
