Pomona Waitlist Thread Class of 2021

Has anyone sent Pomona their most recent grades yet? I just got my marking period 3 grades back a week ago and they’re good (just one grade dropped slightly from the last 2 marking periods, I hope that’s okay otherwise I won’t send the grades). But I don’t want to bother admissions by sending them extra stuff since they haven’t asked for grades…

@ricka8 are they better than before ? try sending

@Andrax54 They’re basically the same but calc dropped to an A (obviously not a big deal but I’m just worried about annoying them by sending extra stuff if it’s not more impressive than my grades before)

Would you know if they take in state waitlistees first?

Is it safe to assume that people who are getting off find out next week? This is what I noticed judging by the Pomona waitlist threads of 2015-16.

No, it’s not, @WoleSoyinka . WL responses may start this week but may go on for a while. You will be advised when they are done. If a school is overenrolled, you will hear sooner.

This in an iterative process. Pomona will make some WL offers, hear what the response is, figure out what they still need and do it again. At the same time, students who deposited at Pomona may get off WL at schools they prefer, opening new spots.

I know one person who got into Stanford off a WL in August! That’s unusual, for sure, but until you hear it’s over, it’s still a possibility. With that said, it is generally best to “move on” to the school where you have deposited and forget about the WL until you have an offer.

Good luck!

@WoleSoyinka About in-state I highly doubt it because Pomona is a private school so that doesn’t matter to them and in fact it’s harder to get in from CA because they have so many CA people applying. And I would guess that at least half of those who get off the waitlist will find out in the next 2 weeks, but plenty of others will find out later until July even

Guys people have gotten off Cali waitlists (UCLA, Berkeley, etc.) do you know if any Pomona people have?

Nope, I called admissions yesterday asking if they would use the waitlist and they asked me to leave a message and never replied, so I’ll call again Monday and by then I’m sure they’ll have info

“Our experience suggests that after May 7, a date which follows most college reply deadlines, we will have a better sense of whether we will be admitting students from the wait list”

I’m guessing we’ll find out tomorrow if they use the waitlist or not? Good luck to everyone!

Just wanted to let you guys know, I called admission again today and they said they don’t have any info yet and will be reviewing the waitlist these next two weeks. But I’m pretty sure the lady didn’t quite understand me because I know they always start accepting students off the waitlist this week of May and I wasn’t transferred to a specific person who would for sure know this info. So I wouldn’t take her word for it that they don’t know if they’ll be using the waitlist yet and I recommend that other people call too.

I just called and they said they’re still working on it. Eventually we’ll get something by email. So probably should just wait.

How have we not heard anything yet? This is so weird in the past people have gotten off the waitlist around May 10 already…

@ricka8 yeah should we contact our regional admissions officers?

@WoleSoyinka Yeah, probably. I’ll email mine today and politely ask if there is any info about the waitlist yet

@ricka8 could you tell us what he says? I’ve already emailed mine a few times and I don’t wanna end up irritating the admissions team.

2 people have already gotten off the waitlist from a school near me.

@ramennoobles Wait seriously? Are you sure? I guess it’s not that surprising since they didn’t say they weren’t using the waitlist but it’s weird that no one here has heard from them yet… Maybe the first wave is this week.

Historically speaking that means this week is the last we could possibly hear back from Pomona, and most likely next week will be denial letters

100 percent sure. There were 2 people already admitted from that school that I became friends with. One of them told me that two more people (and identified them by name) had gotten off the waitlist from his school and would also be attending Pomona this fall.
