Poor Schedule

Hey, I didn’t get the schedule I wanted in my junior year at high school. Instead of getting put into Macroeconomics, I was put into Art History, and I don’t even care about art? I’m applying for a schedule change, but I doubt I’ll get it. How bad will this look to Ivy League-tier colleges? Btw, I’m taking 4-5 other APs this year.

what exactly does your schedule look like? we cant help you if you don’t tell us what else you’re taking.

If you don’t want to take art history, don’t take art history.

With 4-5 APs, they won’t care.

Thanks ski, and I think I’ll take Psych if I can’t get Macro.

This is my current schedule:
AP Lang
APUSH
Ap Physics
AP Chem
Maybe AP Calculus BC (Calculus I if not)
AP Art history (as of now)
Latin 3

Are you taking AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C?
What is your intended major?
What are you planning on taking next year?

Just because a class has the letters AP in its title doesn’t mean that it the right class to take.

That really sucks that you are being forced to take an AP version of a class you don’t even care about. With that being said, how did this happen? No offense but I’m having trouble believing that any school would force you to take Art History. There is probably a way to get out of taking it. Your current schedule is a dream compared to what one at mine would look like since I go to a backward rural school. So far only about two students at my school have ever been allowed to have a course load remotely similar to yours. Most of the top students are only allowed to take 2-3 APs if they’re lucky and we only actually have one AP class not online (lit & comp). Your schedule, in my nonprofessional opinion, should be competitive in the ivy league assuming you have a good gpa.

The OP can chime in, but my guess is that s/he was asked to rank elective choices. And while Art History was ranked lower than Econ, it was still ranked. That said, most schools allow some type of schedule adjustment.

Why two lab sciences?

A few comments:
–I would not take art history if you have no interest in the subject – can’t you find something else even if it isn’t an AP? Did you put Art History as a choice? If so, why. If not, why did you get placed in the class?
–I would not take two AP sciences in the same year unless you are an absolute science whiz kid.
– And FWIW you could ask your guidance counselor to note that you did not get into AP Economics and mention the reason why (class was oversubscribed, scheduling conflict or whatever) in your recommendation.

Keep in mind that college admissions is not a race to get the most APs. As long as your guidance counselor will check the box saying you took the most rigorous schedule available at your HS your course rigor will be fine for any college.

Hello all, sorry for late response, I was busy.

Plum, AP Physics 1, Economics/Finance, not sure yet tbh

Eeyore, yeah i totally understand that, but I’m genuinely interested in Psychology (bc i think it could help in business) and I want to show that I’m challenging myself as much as possible to colleges.

Meme, a humanities course is required at my school. The only humanities courses available are an art class where you have to draw, etc (which I am absolutely terrible at), and a singing class :/. So this is really my only option, because history sounds better to me that drawing. Ik it’s hard to believe lol, no offense taken, and it’s really stupid, but I can’t really do anything about it unfortunately.

Ski, that’s exactly what happened lol. I will apply for a drop/add, but they rarely get passed for APs at my school because it’s so competitive and everybody wants to take multiple (leaving very little room).

bopper, I like science.

happy, my only real option is to take the drawing class instead. I have emailed my counselor tho, requesting to take my humanities course senior year when it doesn’t matter as much as junior. Also, I am very good at science.

As a note, I completely understand that I shouldn’t load on APs just for the hell of it. I am very smart (rly not trying to brag) so I’m trying to challenge myself while also taking relevant classes (not AP Art History… lol) no offense to art-fanatics

Some colleges expect you to take art or music in high school. Examples include California and South Dakota public universities.
