Hey everyone! Hope the summer is going well so far!

I just cam back from orientation at UWSP, and now I am searching for a great audition song for the day before classes. The first musical of the year is..."HAIR". I am doing lots of research on shows with similar pop-rock styles, but I don't want to miss any options. Can anyone throw out the names of some shows with that have a similar folk/pop/rock edge to its music?

Look at Two Gentlemen of Verona (same composer), ALW, Stephen Schwartz (particularly Pippin and Godspell)...possibly A New Brain, Tick Tick Boom and Aida...

There was also a sequel to Hair written by Galt MacDermot (I believe that it's called Rainbowland), but I can't imagine that the music would be possible/probable to find...

While you should find out for certain, I am not sure you HAVE to sing from a rock musical, but could sing a rock/pop song from the sixties rock genre that is not from a musical. I mean you ought to check if the song needs to be from a musical but I think for an audition for Hair, there are lots of songs from that genre beyond from actual musicals. I can't quite remember at this point, but I think my own kid sang a Janis Joplin song for a Hair audition and for another musical about songs from the sixties.

soozievt - I did consider purusing some sixities-style music as well :) The audition sheet asks for songs that are PREFERABLY from the musical theatre genre, but I am not counting out sixties pop/rock songs. I feel like there could be some gems in that area.

OK, so I really am interested in the song "Smash the Mirror" from the show Tommy. However, when I brought it up on musicnotes.com, the key was a couple steps too high - the song was by The Who originally and this version must be for a guy to sing. Does anyone know of any other sheet music for the song out there from the show itself?

Actually, on musicnotes, it's in the key of F, which I think is the correct key from the show. It does belt pretty darn high!

Many songs on musicnotes, there is a button at the bottom where you can transpose it. I don't see that one on this song, but it says

Contains printable sheet music plus an interactive, downloadable digital sheet music file.

I'm guessing that would give you the ability to transpose yourself, but don't know if you'd need some particular program on your computer to do so -- you could check with their customer service to see.
