i have a lot of friends who say "pop" who are from washington state, and my mom's family in the midwest all calls it pop. I personally don't like the sound of the word "pop" so soda it is.

coke is usde in the south for all drinks

I use coke/soda interchangeably (as do many in North Carolina and the South). I can't help but laugh when anyone says "pop", though I'm sure some of you "pop" people would react the same way if someone offered you a Mellow Yellow and called it a coke.

These slight regional dialect differences are really cool and something to hold on to. As more and more parents let the TV babysit their young kids, whose speech is then influenced by accent-less newscasters and TV personalities, the country is slowly conforming to one standard "Hollywood" dialect.

I have not seen anybody mention Cola! I've heard it called that a few times.

I'm still happy calling it soda. :)

Coke (For everything from Sprite to the real Coca-Cola)

"Want a coke?"

Although my grandparents do still call it "Soda Water"

Soda, and I call Coca Cola or Pepsi "cola" not "Coke."

if i want coke or pepsi, i say coke. if im being more general, then soda.

btw, i hate when you go to a fast food place and ask for a coke and they say "sorry we only have pepsi". uhh. coke, pepsi, they're the same friggin thing. idiots.

For those of you who say coke to mean any soft drink, what do you call the real coke? Do you call it Coca Cola?

pepsi and coke are VERY different. Like the difference between real orange juice and sunny-d

given, coke and pepse arent exactly the same. however, if you ask for a coke at taco bell, you want whatever the normal brown bubbly soda is. so when the dude says "sorry we only have pepsi", chances are you're going to say "that's fine". seriously, its not that big of a difference. one's a little sweeter and the other is bubbly-er. ooooo...

If I wanted Pepsi and some place only had Coke, I wouldn't say "that's fine" and take the Coke; I'd get something else.

But that could just be me.

Soda, Coke if it's Coca Cola

radioactivepb, i guess, if you didn't like Coke. but i guess i'm easily satisfied when it comes to soda. pepsi, coke, rc...they're all fine with me. i actually think rc is the best, but like i said, no big difference.
