Is this mainly a regional thing? I don't think I've ever heard anything other than Soda used and I'm from Baltimore. What do you say and where are you from?

SODA, all the way.

My Alabama family says “coke.”

I actually had this discussion with a customer of mine a month ago (I work at a grocery store). He had just visited somewhere in the North or Midwest. He said he was so happy to be back [to Florida] since we call it “soda” here, instead of “pop.” He couldn’t stand the phrase “pop.”

And no, “soda pop” doesn’t cut it. :P

Soda here in Pennsylvania

Coke= Coka Cola here, rather than a generalization for all carbonated drinks.

Here in Utah, we say soda. I’ve only heard old people call it pop.

In NY we say soda or Coke. In Florida they also say soda or coke

I had an argument with a friend once. I call it soda. He said soda is a type of water (carbonated water) and that it’s called coke. I tried to explain to him that coke is a specific type of soda.

Yeah Coke definitely means Coca-Cola to me. I don’t even use Coke for Pepsi, simply CC products.

Coke = coca cola. Everything else is soda

I call it “soft drink”.

nevermind.

I usually refer to it as ‘black water’.

As far as I’m concerned, “coke” is something you’d go to jail for.

Pop.

cola and coke both are used in names of other drinks so if you say “soda” they bring you jones soda

Carbonated corn syrup water.

soda = soft drinks
coke = coca cola
pop = wack

what is jones soda?

^It’s not soda, but it’s really disgusting. I got it at Panera once and didn’t like it. Then I read the nutrition label and saw that it had milk in it. Yuck!

I’m from DC and say soda. Up here in Oregon they say pop. eww

“Soda.”

‘Coke’ is just stupid as a generalization. This ain’t Kleenex!

lol, I say soft drink as well. Never really assimilated in to soda. I’ve never heard anyone call it pop though, I thought that’s just what they portrayed in movies and stuff haha.
