popularity and your grades....

oo. It's actually my grades that made me popular. When I first started school, no one knew me. But two weeks after, when we started getting our grades (and I was getting strait As) everyone there (even those I didn't know) knew me by name and always came to talk to me (I made like 10 new friends in 1 day). They even gave me a nick name, now even the teachers and the principal know me as "The Doctor" !
And don't coment on my username becasue it's outdated and I got much higher than that.

To the people that say that the nerds think they're better than everyone else, in my school its the opposite. If you have to state that you are "popular," there it is right there. I don't know anyone that is in the top of the class (at least top 25%) that hangs around with the clique that deems themselves popular. They mostly just talk and laugh in class so it would be hard to hang out with them and get good grades.

Right on, evilasiandictator.

I think the answer to this thread is the same as the one regarding athletics and being smart. Both "popularity" and good grades are possible, and I know many cases of such.

I would elaborate, but I'm going to bed now (3:30am)... and I have my first day of school tomorrow!.. yay for three hours of sleep :/

In my school it is cool to be smart and almost everyone focuses on their grades. My school doesn't really have a "popular group" because everyone gets along with everyone and there are no cliques. Hmm... It is actually normal in lunch to talk about the last class you had, dicuss a test, or talk about a project (obviously not for the whole time). The only real "nerds" are classified more by what they wear and act towards academics (like oh I got an A, I bet that is the highest). As for the dumb jock thing... well that doesn't work because almost everyone takes sports and they love it, but still do well in school!

i love my private school, class of 25. we're one big happy family, and we're all smart. ok well maybe not the smartest, but 90% of us care about our grades. a lot.

What's so wrong about being a nerd? I'm a complete bio nerd, and most of my friends, for some odd reason, find that extremely cute. -_-;

It's not hard to be popular. You just have to take your chances with the cool people. If you start sitting at their table in the begining of the year and make friends, you'd become popular. Popular is more like who you're friends are and how you act towards other students.

If a hot girl sat alone during lunch and had no friends, would people think she is popular?

Just make sure you stay in touch with your friends. Even if you don't, they'll still think of you as a friend. Being popular and smart isn't difficult, you don't really need to do anything to keep your popularity, you just need to keep your friends.

oh our valedictorian this year (who's a complete genius, top 20 chemistry olympiad) is known by all the "popular" kids (meaning party people) and nearly everyone on campus... he's liked by everyone (except the nerds).

it really depends on what your definition of popular is.

in response to the hot girl sitting alone during lunch.. i think she'd have a better chance of someone sitting down and talking to her than someone who isn't good-looking.

Well i'm one of those "nerdy" type cuz i talk about AP stuff and college courses too much. But half of my friends are into those too. It's weird. In my school, you are either extremely hot/popular and dumb, or you are somewhat "normal" but extremely smart. So i gues si don't have to stress over being a real abnormal nerd and smart at the same time :)

LttleLis --

Im thinking about applying to UVA, William and Mary, BU and then some Ivies as reaches. you?

lol I am not friends with teh popular kids, nor the geeks. Both groups are stuck up.........the freaks and the drama kids are where it is at lol. even though i would never have enough guts to do a play.

For some reason this year I was much more in the in crowd than years past, granted I'm a crazy nerd who takes five AP's and is ranked third out of two hundred. overall I'm known for being quirky which I guess makes me generally personable to most people in the school. I also got some celebrity after people started hearing about my acceptances. And it's funny because how many nerds do you know are on the prom court, so that was pretty funny that it turned out that way, so yeah overall it was a pretty amazing senior year though how sad that it ended a couple months ago, though there's college to look forward to now :D

w00t for drama kids!!!!

i'm friends with all sorts of people. i know quiet a bit of party kids, a bunch of metalheads, some nerds and band geeks. i'm pretty much always being myself, and it seems to work

I hate all these labels. Nerds, Geeks, Popular people.....
we're all people!

I second the statement above. :)

However, for the sake of this thread...

I am friends with - "Gangstas", Star Trek Nerds, Jocks, a Bodybuilder, Rejects, Laid-Back Nerds, Ultra Nerds, Skateboarders, and One Obsessive Compulsive.

:D

At least where I am from, being popular takes work. Well "work" meaning a lot of time spent talking to people, managing friendships, relationships, etc. I can't imagine someone having enough time to crack the upper echelon of popularity and still get good grades in challenging classes. But hey. Some schools are different.

and where exactly are you from Optimus Prime?

"Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots, a faction of heroic robots from the planet Cybertron who battle their enemies, the evil Decepticons, for control of their homeworld, and by extension, peace in the Universe."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Prime

The Planet Cybertron.

A better question - How old are you? ;)
