My son went to portfolio day for film, and received 2 “acceptance letters” from schools (one on the spot, one in the mail). Does that mean he is “IN?” I know both said he needs to submit his formal application materials, but how does this work? Is there a chance he won’t get in. He’s very excited, both schools are good options. We are working on all the appellations (ugh) but I am just not sure how to comprehend this (and is it ok he is telling his grandparents, lol?!) Thanks!
(should say APPLICATIONS, not sure why it changed it!)
My daughter went to a portfolio day last October, when she was a senior. She lucked out and was able to spend a lot of time with the reviewer (the school was her top choice but not an “art school”). She got good feedback on what to work on. She too was told that her portfolio was “accepted”. Not understanding, she asked what she should focus on between then and when she submitted her application and portfolio. The reviewer had to explicitly say that her portfolio was accepted and that she didn’t even have to submit it again. In fact, she filled out a form recommending her for her preferred program/major. She still had to submit a formal application and the reviewer’s recommendation was linked to her actual app.
On paper, her grades made it highly likely she would be accepted to this school but she felt her portfolio was weak. Needless to say she left ecstatic, and was accepted ED less than 2 months later.
Good luck to your son.
Thank you. Sounds similar to what happened with him. They did tell him to submit his portfolio etc for potential merit scholarships. This whole process is overwhelming! Hope your daughter is happy wherever she went!
In my son’s case his portfolio was accepted at PD for several schools but he still needed to send it in by a particular day in order to be considered for scholarships Also in a couple of cases where the art school was part of a larger university he also had to apply & be accepted to the university, as well as the art school.
My daughter only applied to 2 schools and only one of those required a portfolio for her intended major. She too had to apply and be accepted to each University as well as their “art college”. For the school that required the portfolio, she qualified for an academic merit scholarship which was greater than any one that could be based on her portfolio. They wouldn’t stack scholarships but automatically awarded the higher amount.
Which schools did you apply to? When a rep from SAIC visited my school, I sat down and had a portfolio review with him. He accepted my portfolio on the spot and nominated me to apply for priority merit scholarships by applying by the early action deadline. I still had to send in my test scores, transcripts, and upload my portfolio. From what I hear, as long as you meet their SAT/GPA requirements then you’re in.
