How many examples of work do we need in our portfolios, and how much description do we need for each pictures, on average?? I am applying for Wig and Makeup Design, and possibly Stage Properties at several universities. Does anyone have suggestions for characters or things to do?? Sorry for all the questions, I am new at the college thing.

Welcome to cc! Members of my faculty wrote an answer to your question, and it's posted here: http://www.otterbein.edu/dept/THR/portfolio.htm I'm sure you'll have more questions after you've read it, but it should provide a place for you to start.

Most portfolios, even professional ones, have very little if any description. Students are, however, expected to be able to talk about their work.

Hope this helps.

Theaterbrat: Every school has different requirements that you can obtain from their web site. Some require a minimum of 12, and some require a minimum of 15 pieces. Some schools require a home assignment. Some require at least one self portrait and still life. Most want drawings from observations. Some college will let you show your work at portfolio day or at the college itself; and some, such as RISD, require that you send them your work on digital slides with three original pieces submitted in addition.

Bottom line: read the college's web site for the requirements.
