Positive Things about UCSD

I'm looking to transfer to UCSD and all I've been getting is negative feedback. Most of the people don't even go to UCSD, so I decided to ask students who are actually enrolled there. What are some GOOD things about UCSD?

Also, is anyone here a transfer student? How hard was it to get into UCSD as a transfer? Any info would be very much appreciated :)!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but it was ridiculously easy to transfer in. I wasn't a TAG applicant (or whatever transfer agreement is used) and I got in with a 3.2 GPA. I think it depends on your major, though, because I got in for social science.

As for the school itself, I think they put some effort into helping the transfers out, but for the most part, it's up to you to get into the mix. I've been to a few parties, and they're pretty fun, but they weren't in La Jolla.

Good things about UCSD? I would say that there are a bunch of ways to help yourself out if you're looking into graduate education. There is also the beach in close proximity. If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

UCSD is a mixed bag just like other colleges. Some like it, some don't.

UCSD is easy to get into at the freshman level and transfer level. The freshman acceptance rate is 45.7%; incredibly high for it to be considered selective. Similarly, transferring into UCSD is also easy. According to the transfer agreement, all you have to do is to keep up a 2.8 GPA.

Some good things about UCSD are: weather, location, and the area, which depends on the type of person you are.

LOL, I hate the weather here.

i absolutely hate the weather.

Love the weather, love the beaches. La Jolla itself is pretty rich, no frat row, upscale restaraunts and housing. People say it's boring here but I think it's all about the people you know and how motivated you are to meet people and try new things. Wasn't too hard to transfer in to, I had around 3.6-3.7. I love it here, I'm glad I chose UCSD.

ForeverYoung, did you go to De Anza?

Thanks for your feedback ForeverYoung :) I love warm weather so I think I'll fit in.

And I talked to the UCSD rep. who visited De Anza yesterday and she said that almost everyone above a 3.4 gets admitted so I'm a little more at ease now. Thanks everyone :)

Warm weather? Shoot, you'll hate it right now then. 20 below.

It's not twenty below right now.
According to Accuweather, it's 57 F in La Jolla.
Boohoo, it's 37 F at Cal.

Yeah... I've found myself being totally spoiled by La Jolla's amazingly mild and gorgeous weather. Now I think it's totally freezing when normally (I'm from Norcal) I would be pretty okay in this weather. I think when I go back home the first thing I'm going to accomplish is getting sick from the ridiculously (relative to here) cold weather up there.

Don't know if it's because I've been a SoCal-er all my life, but this is just typical weather for me. Right around December and January, the air gets very chilly at least, if it doesn't also rain. But all the other months of the year, it's very nice weather. (:

I absolutely love that we can walk to the cliffs and to the beach if you want (though you would probably not want to walk to beach). Go Muir. :D

As for social scene, right around Week 4-6, I discovered on a weekend where I decided to chillax on campus that the campus is actually dead on weekends. But as everyone said, if you have friends and if you are looking for it, it's really quite easy to have a bombass time. (:

Weather...weather....weather...

Oh, and I'm a TA. That's a serious plus for anyone.

It is cold right now, even compared to Nor Cal weather, hopefully it'll pass and we get back the gorgeous oh so comfortable weather of San Diego I've gotten used to haha.

Yeap I transferred from De Anza, still have love for it. Some of my friends transferred here the previous year and I'm living with my roomate who transfered with me from De Anza. De Anza pride yea! =)

It is pretty socially dead. ex) out of the 30 girls in my building only 8 party. But you just have to look a little harder and you'll find stuff to do and there are fun people.

For me the beach cancels out anything else bad about the school. I went to the beach yesterday it was perfect and it's december.

The campus is really nice with lots of trees and grass

the campus is nice, and it's a really good place to study, etc. if you wanna really focus on studying that's really easy to do here. there aren't really any parties, but i think if you're really into that stuff you'll find people u can party with...but i hate to say it, there are some weird people in my classes etc., but in general the people here seem fairly nice.
