Posse Interviews in 3 days, any advice?

I was nominated for the Posse Scholarship, and I have my first round interviews in 3 days. Can anyone give me a heads up on what to expect? I've done extensive research, but nobody has ever really said what goes on in the interview. Most people stop at "activities."
Anyway, thanks. :)

Everything I have read is that they are looking for leadership experience. Play up those aspects of your resume.

Good luck!

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind
Anyone else?

They will watch how you interact in groups. You will be given different scenarios. There is a delicate balance between emerging as a leader and not trying to take over or be perceived as bossy or not being a team player

Thanks guys, I got back from the interview a couple hours ago. Feeling particularly stressed out, more so than before actually. Anyway, I just did my best to contribute positively to the group activities without over-asserting myself, and made as many friends as possible. Even if I don’t get any further, it was a great experience. So many intelligent people packed into one room. Anyway, thanks again.

Great job. Can you tell us a little more about the interview? Was it actually 3 hours? How many people attended? When will you find out next round?

Sorry DD has interview in a few weeks.

It was about 3 hours.
My experience was that I arrived, got my name tag, and stood around for about 20 minutes as everyone else arrived, having conversations with other students and generally meeting new people.
After a while, everyone comes together and we play a couple of icebreakers, just to warm up. Then, we are all split randomly into groups of 10. Our first activity: Build the tallest free-standing structure (using only straws and tape) without using your dominant hand. Communication is what I think they look for here.
Then we split into new random groups, where we are given a card. The card has a topic that we must present in the form of a public service announcement. Not sure exactly what they’re looking or here, just be a leader to the best of your ability.
We split into random groups one more time. Within our groups, we are told to partner up. Each set of partners is given a card, with a topic, that the pair must lead a discussion on. For example, my partner and I were given “Discuss the impact of the recession on Los Angeles.” Don’t BE the discussion here, LEAD the discussion. Ask questions and voice opinions that will get the rest of the group talking and thinking.
And yeah, I’m Posse LA, so I’m not sure if this is how it will be for you. But I believe that the overall idea of how to react in each situation is the same across the board.
After these activities, you get a sheet of paper with prompts and a pen and are told to write a short essay in 10 minutes. This really got me, because I wasn’t prepared. So be sure that’s in your mind.
At this point, you’re essentially done. The facilitators will talk to the group about the program and its partner colleges for a while, and you’re released. Good Luck! :)

When do you learn if you made the second round?

And thanks for the detailed explanation of what happened during the interview.

Good luck!

I believe they said within a week, but I haven’t received anything yet. Hopefully something arrives soon, praying for acceptance hahaha
And thanks, good luck to your daughter (I’m guessing :P
