Awarded Posse Scholarships cover full-tuition. Since the vast majority of the partner schools are out-of-state, are the out-of-State fees waived for the scholarship recipients?
The Posse scholarship is full tuition, whether it be in or out of state. So your D will not pay any tuition at all at UVA, if she is selected as a Posse scholar. I think that it covers the “fees” that are part of the “tuition and fees” category at UVA, but I’m not sure - that category doesn’t exist in my kid’s college. Posse doesn’t cover room and board, but colleges will often help low income families with these as well.
Thanks @MWolf. From what I’ve read, UVA doesn’t award merit to OOS students and I was trying to estimate the cost left for us to cover (room & board, books) just in case we don’t get any additional outside scholarships. Like most, I’d really like her to take on as little debt as possible. Thankfully, if she doesn’t get selected for Posse her other choices will either waive OOS fee due to her merit award (LSU) and the private school (Tulane) doesn’t have an OOS fee. Also, the cost of room & board at UVA seems pretty manageable if we don’t get any other scholarships. Thanks again!
Well, they do award merit aid to some OOS students, since the Posse scholarship is a merit scholarship. But I was talking about financial aid, since UVA claims that they cover 100% of demonstrated need. So Posse Scholars who find it difficult to pay room and board will likely get FA to help with that.
