My son is a Posse finalist for Bucknell University. He still has a final round to be chosen for the scholarship award. We live in VA so he will in-state tuition for UVA or VTECH. Do the benefits of getting a tuition only scholarship (4 years) outweigh the benefits of going to a top tier school like UVA with in-state tuition?

What is the net cost to you for posse vs uva?
Does your son prefer one environment over the other? I think they are both similar in some ways (preppy student body etc) but uva is obviously larger
Thanks for the reply, for Posse it is only the Room and Boarding Vs UVA Tuition and Room/Boarding - Net cost would be 14 K more for us per year. He prefers UVA since it is slightly larger school and has good Engineering program. We are wondering how established the Engineering program at Bucknell is compared to UVA.
Bucknell engineering program has been around for many (50??) years and is very well regarded. It may not have as many types of engineering as uva however.

UVA is $14k more a year or Bucknell? My son’s friend is a freshman doing mech e at Bucknell. He’s struggling the first semester with workload, but being from NJ, I can say UVA is seen as a tougher admit than Bucknell around here.
