Posse scholarship 2020

So are we, in Chicago. I’d don’t know which election result is harder to wait for but surely, the two waits combined really make for some very anxious days…

Hi! I am also doing Posse ATL but I haven’t heard anything and it is Nov. 5. Just wondering if you have?

Also what was the glitch and what did it say?

@chelseamuoka I’m from Posse ATL too but I haven’t heard anything yet so we’re in the same boat. The glitch just said, “Now that you’re a Posse Finalist…” but the Posse staff fixed it. Hopefully we receive good news!

@chelseamuoka @mailifeishard
Didn’t they send you information that they’d inform everyone by November 6, as Posse Chicago did? Not that it makes the wait much easier but at least there’s a firm deadline.

We are waiting in Chicago too…I am hopeful tomorrow will be the day.

The email arrived just before noon today, and the news is not good. Oh, well, it’s a disappointment but it was certainly worth a try.
However, a word of caution/advice to the future applicant and their parents: the wait has been torture, draining mental energy, and focus. If your program has its schedule as late as CHI and ATL Posse this year, with the finalists announced AFTER many ED deadlines, you have to find a good way to almost forget about it while waiting and proceed with application preparation, which may be all but impossible. Let it be part of your application strategy calculation and good luck to everyone who made it to the finals!

I just got an email that I didn’t get Posse. Good luck to everyone else though

I ended up having to turn down my Posse Finalist offer. Does anyone know whether my information will be in the Posse Access database?

@gratefulbrick I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think so because you need to sign a waiver kind of thing and opt-in to Posse Access. It’s intended for finalists who did not make the final cut.

Is there anyone else here who didn’t hear back yet? I sent them an email asking about my status and I never heard back.

@gratefulbrick We are not matched to our #1 school and wanted to turn down the finalist offer too. But only those finalists who don’t make to be Posse scholars will be in Posse Access.

Question regarding the ED application. Finalists are asked to have their applications ready before their appointment with the Posse trainer including the CA essay, Supplemental essays for the college if any. But, they need to send the supporting documents like transcript, recommendation letters etc. to the local Posse office.

Do they submit the Common application or do they have a proprietary application just for the Posse finalists?

Back before the pandemic, students would put together a full application (ED or other type, depending on college), fill in everything on the Common App that is needed, without signing or submitting, have a hard copy of everything that would be submitted, and have a meet with a Posse person at the office with all the material. I cannot remember if they simply dropped off all the material or also signed and submitted the online application at the Posse office.

They should provide that information at the parents meeting, as well as schedule meetings with Posse people for a “virtual” drop-off.

The application, though, is the same Common App that is filled by everybody applying to that college.

Thank you @MWolf . They asked us to email all the documents- transcripts, school report, counselor, 2 teacher recommendations and other non-teacher recommendations to the local posse office. My daughter requested and got confirmation from her GC , one teacher and two non-teacher recommenders that they sent the docs. But she is not able to reach one of the teachers. The teacher already submitted the recommendation on Common app. So, if they will submit the Common app we should be ok. I am hoping that they wont insist that the teacher directly send it to them for the meeting.

Hello, my daughter got an email late Weds. night that she did not make it. We are ok with it as she did not have her heart in the schools, but I think she would have tried hard to make it work if she moved forward. Good luck to everyone with DAP3! Keep positive.

Hello, questions for all the finalists: do we need to send official SAT/ACT test score from Common App to the colleges? Posse office asked for picture copies and we are not sure if we still need to ask the test organization to send.

Thank you and happy holidays

Couple of questions to anyone who already had the finalist interview

  1. What was the format? Was it similar to DAP1?(Considering everything is virtual this year)
  2. How long did it take to get the results?
  3. My daughter should have her finalist interview this coming Tuesday, but hasn’t received her zoom invite yet. She reached out to a couple of kids who are also posse finalists on Saturday, they haven’t received it either. When did you receive the meeting invite?

Good luck to everyone who will have the interview in the next few days.

Yes, please let us know something about the final interview. Our interview will be Tuesday too. Thanks a lot!

@MomofOne Have you daughter heard something from her friends who interviewed on Saturday?

@YMBA6688, my daughter just called the local posse office they told her that she should get the invite in a couple of hours, may be earlier.

Most of the friends that she contacted are finalists for the same college as her. So, they will be having the interview tomorrow. They formed a Discord group during the family meeting and are keeping in touch with each other. Also, it looks like interviews for all the colleges/universities will be tomorrow in our local posse.

Good luck to you/your child tomorrow.
