Hi all. My advanced apologies for a likely long post, as I feel there is a fair amount of context necessary for it. I’ve submitted applications to transfer to some public universities, and included everything in those applications that felt relevant. I had previously attended an out-of-state university for several years. My grades were initially good, but plummeted during the course of my time there due to a number of medical reasons, chief among them being an at-the-time undiagnosed mental disorder. I dropped out, convalesced from a couple injuries, and eventually found out about and began treating my disorder that, in hindsight, I have clearly had all my life, and that had a massive impact on my studies and overall functionality. Since then, I’ve taken many classes at a community college and done very well, to the point where my overall transferrable GPA is somewhat respectable and I am attempting to transfer to finish my long and winding march to a degree.
However, immediately following my last semester at my old university, I attempted to take several classes as a non-degree-seeking student at a different university. I applied for no financial aid or any program. This was prior to my recovery from a major leg injury, being medically cleared of concussive symptoms, and the later psychiatric diagnosis that ultimately prove an inflection point in my life. This attempt didn’t go well, to say the least. I think I withdrew from or failed those classes, all of which, over the past couple of years, I’ve taken and earned good grades in from my CC.
I did not include that one summer term at that university in my applications. It was a hazy and pained period of time, and subjectively it doesn’t feel like a part of my life, or that I was there during its passage. In my mind those two months feel separate and fundamentally irrelevant to my academic and personal journey… But while gathering official transcripts, scores, et cetera, to send out now, it has finally sunk in that I should have dug up records from then and included them in my applications regardless, and now I’m worried that this omission will be an issue.
I would like some advice on what I should do. Do universities care if you took a few classes aimlessly and as a non-degree-seeking student several years ago, and decided not to include them? Should I withdraw applications, update them, and then attempt to resubmit them despite the deadlines being passed? Any and all input is appreciated.
Thank you!
