Hey y’all. I’m a CA HS senior applying to CSUN.
I have had 4.0 or 4.5 weighted since Sophomore year, probably an average of 3.7-3.9 unweighted. 1370 on SAT. 5th of 450 in class.
I’m only really interested in going to CSUN, due to Deaf Studies major, but I realize my grades my drop below typical for this last semester.
So my question is… If I get a C and a couple B’s, will it kill my chances? I’m all AP and one honor classes.
Rule of thumb for the CSU’s is no D’s or F’s and passing all your a-g Senior courses with a C or higher. You are fine.
choose next years classes carefully -do not bury yourself with an unreasonable workload. CSUs look only at grades in a-g classes during 10 and 11 grades and your SAT/ACT - that is it… they also cap your AP bonus at 8 semesters - a couple of Cs could drag your GPA down to the point where you aren’t competitive for Northridge. As a non-local applicant with your GPA, you will need a CSU GPA above 3.1. It looks like you will be in good shape but, seriously, there is no upside to an all AP schedule…
College will be fine. I know what I can/can’t handle ( concurrent enrollment), plus a little power over schedule and time management.
I’m only worried 1 class may go down to a C, and that’s due to hating busy work and rude teacher duos.
Plus, gotta get that AP test… College credit is college credit, and passing 4 tests is pretty worth it. (Only one that really want worth it is government. But had to do AP gov to have AP econ)
Though many colleges have specific restrictions about how they can be used, AP credits may certainly streamline your college. If they ruin your GPA, you’ll be at a CC rather than Northridge.
For someone who hates busy work, there really is no upside to an all AP schedule as a Sr. Sr year is full of distractions you don’t see coming. You don’t have to search too hard to find people who have their acceptance to their dream school rescinded due to misjudging their Sr workload. You are in a kind of unique spot in that you know where you want to go and have a specific program in mind. Trust me, few of your peers have that figured out. Why risk it with a bunch of busy work you don’t need?
