Possible mistake noticed after being admitted.

Hello,

So some background on my question first. I am 26 and returning to school in the fall. When I was younger I took two community college courses but I dropped them and then did the same thing a few years ago. I have never received any college credit from these courses.

When I was applying to my new school I looked at the different applications and on the Transfer Application page it said to apply as a transfer if you have “completed coursework at a college or university after high school”. I took that to mean completing a class and earning credit, which I had never done before, so I applied as a new freshmen.

Today I randomly came across information that said you have to apply as a transfer student if you have ever gone to college, so I went back to my school’s website trying to see if that was the case for my school, but I can’t see anything on the website.

I am already admitted, I have an orientation day set, my financial aid information has been submitted, and now I am worried that I did my application wrong. Am I just freaking out about nothing? Or are they going to somehow find out I dropped a few classes in my past and expel me?

Just contact the admissions office and explain. Personally, I think you are OK since you really did not have any credit to transfer. It is possible that they will change your Financial Aid package but I think itis unlikely.

They’re not going to find out unless you tell them. And I’m not sure how “completed coursework at a college or university” could mean anything other than “completed coursework at a college or university”. If they meant to include courses you started but did not finish, they would not have used that particular wording.

In any case, most colleges have an actual number of credits you must have acquired in order to apply as a transfer student. At UNC, for example, the number is 60, so someone who was just one credit shy of an Associate’s Degree at a community college would still apply as a freshman.

I agree with @xraymancs. Call admissions and talk to them.
