Possible Photography/film major...which school is best?

Hi, I originally applied to 8 different schools and narrowed it down to 4. The problem is that I am having a really hard time deciding where it is best to attend for my intended major. I am currently between Rutgers, Hofstra, Binghamton, and Towson.

I know Rutgers is probably one of the better schools and if I went I would be in Mason Gross. However, I am still unsure about how spread out the campus is and how big the classes are. I hated the idea of riding a bus to classes everyday. But people tell me that getting into Mason Gross is a huge accomplishment and should take advantage of it.

Hofstra seems to have a pretty good art/film program but the college itself does not seem to be as good as Rutgers or Binghamton.

Binghamton is also one of the better schools but I'm not sure how good the art program is there, or how much they have to offer.

Towson is a beautiful place and I love almost everything about it, except it is not in high standing among my others options. I also don't know how good the art program is there.

If anyone has any input about any of this, I would really appreciate it!! I really am very indecisive and could definitely use the advice given to me.

Thanks so much!!

Hey Nickilu -
Not sure if you made up your mind, yet - if you have I figured I’d post anyway in case someone had the same questions. :)

Some points about Rutgers you may not have considered in comparison to the others are the close proximety to NYC, 45 minutes by train that runs through downtown New brunswick. Also, the majority of their faculty live in NYC and work there, so it is a great connection to the NY art scene. New Brunswick itself is a bustling city with lots of culture and Rutgers U has a pretty large art gallery on campus (the zimmerli). The studio space and facilities at Rutgers is phenomenal - and all of our BFA students get to showcase their work in the Mason Gross gallery.

Additionally the Mason Gross visual arts department is partnering up with the writers house and the School of Arts and Sciences to start a new film program run by Dena Seidel of the writers house.
Rochester Institute of Technology is the best in the world for photo. It has both film and photo.

mfeiler- thanks for the advice. However, I have already decided to go to Binghamton University, being that it is past the May 1st deadline. Although the art program is not known there, they have a graphic design major. I have planned to focus on that aspect and then dual-degree in marketing. Hopefully I made the right decision! (If not I guess I will transfer)

collegehelp- I wish I had known about Rochester before, but I did not apply there.

Thanks for both your help!
