Possible, related graduate programs with Chem. E bachelors?

I currently study chemical engineering with Spanish minor, and was originally planning to directly go to medical school. However, due to financial reasons compounded with bleakly low international student acceptances rate, I have been thinking more and more about my alternate career route and going to graduate school to pursue masters degree, and if I end up really liking it, pursue Ph.D as well.

Besides studying medicine, I also want to study something biology related, but not entirely biology. I want to focus on human medicine side, i.e. studying the engineering of drug, medical tools(I guess these two are parts of bio-nanotechnology?), or maybe biomedical engineering too. I also would like to do researches in medicine.

I would like some advice in what discipline I should pursue masters to open up potential careers as much as possible. Chemistry? Biomedical engineering? bioengineering? Or just go into chemical engineering? Biochemical engineering?

Thanks…I feel so pressured to choose my future as soon as possible because I will at fastest graduate by next winter.

With a chemical engineering bachelors, you could go into Petroleum Engineering graduate program, which can be very profitable. I know ChemE’s who went on to graduate work in such areas as semiconductor chip development, battery technology, and polymer engineering.

That really depends on which topic you end up deciding you want to study. Each of those you mention is going to likely be covered by multiple academic departments and you will just need to do some research into which schools and departments have programs that appeal to you. Consider flipping through some relevant journals and taking note of which departments are actively publishing in the areas that interest you.

Have you looked at the petroleum industry lately? It’s not doing so hot. Also, why is this even a suggestion when OP suggested he wanted to do something related to medical/biomedical research?

Just throwing out there fields related to chemical engineering that he could study.

Some people in my college suggested petroleum industry, but I have ZERO interest in things like making plastic, shampoo, paper, vinyl bag. And it’s obvious they are not related medicine or at least biology in a bit
