Hello, this is my first time posting. Yesterday, I received an email saying the following:

"Dear [Ive deleted my name.],

I am contacting you regarding your academic performance from your senior year in high school. Your transcript from [Ive deleted my high schools name] shows that you received a D in Statistics, along with seven Cs in academic courses. A condition of your admission to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was successful completion of your senior year courses as listed in your application.

You have the opportunity to explain the poor academic performance in your senior year before the Review Committee makes a decision on your admission status. If you wish to provide the Committee with an explanation, you will need to do so by 5 p.m. onTuesday, July 5. You can send this to me via e-mail.

If you have questions, you may contact me via e-mail or at my direct line 217-244-8857.

Sincerely,

This email really worries me. Yes, I became lazy during my last semester of high school, but am I really truly in jeopardy of losing my admission to the school? I did email the Admissions Committee about potentially dropping AP Statistics, the class I was getting a D in, during the end of first semester of senior year. I made sure to mention that I was getting a D in the class as well, not because I was slacking, but because it was just too difficult a course for me. A member of the committee replied saying that I must not drop it and stay with it. The member said I should ask the teacher for possible extra credit work. My teacher flat out said no to that. So Im really just scared at this point. I dont want to lose my admission. May I please get some advice on what to do? Or how to respond to this email? I would truly appreciate it. Have any of you been in this position that currently go to U of I? Thank you in advance to all of you who are reading this post and to those who post as well.
