Possible Retraction of Admission? Please Help.

Hello, this is my first time posting. Yesterday, I received an email saying the following:

"Dear [I’ve deleted my name.],

I am contacting you regarding your academic performance from your senior year in high school. Your transcript from [I’ve deleted my high school’s name] shows that you received a D in Statistics, along with seven Cs in academic courses. A condition of your admission to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was successful completion of your senior year courses as listed in your application.

You have the opportunity to explain the poor academic performance in your senior year before the Review Committee makes a decision on your admission status. If you wish to provide the Committee with an explanation, you will need to do so by 5 p.m. onTuesday, July 5. You can send this to me via e-mail.

If you have questions, you may contact me via e-mail or at my direct line 217-244-8857.

Sincerely,

This email really worries me. Yes, I became lazy during my last semester of high school, but am I really truly in jeopardy of losing my admission to the school? I did email the Admissions Committee about potentially dropping AP Statistics, the class I was getting a D in, during the end of first semester of senior year. I made sure to mention that I was getting a D in the class as well, not because I was slacking, but because it was just too difficult a course for me. A member of the committee replied saying that I must not drop it and stay with it. The member said I should ask the teacher for possible extra credit work. My teacher flat out said no to that. So I’m really just scared at this point. I don’t want to lose my admission. May I please get some advice on what to do? Or how to respond to this email? I would truly appreciate it. Have any of you been in this position that currently go to U of I? Thank you in advance to all of you who are reading this post and to those who post as well.

you are in some deep sh#t man. The D isn’t the big issue, its the fact that you didn’t get a single A or B all year, instead getting all C’s. You should talk to your parents about this, they could help you too. Basically, you need to convince the committee that even with these poor grades, you can still contribute to Illinois and that the poor grades are not representative of the type of student you are. You really need to pull out some major bull***** to convince them not to revoke your admission. I’m not gonna tell you exactly what to say because you need to get yourself out of this situation, but you should try your best to sound like you have matured and that the last year was a mistake. Maybe they will put you on academic probation if you’re lucky.

Do what mpball28 said, but also look into community colleges and such in case you do get rescinded.

Whatever you do, don’t go on a cynical rant proclaiming the pointlessness of high school and why you didn’t work hard because there was no point, and that once you are in college you will be motivated again. All that does is communicate that you don’t care about academics and learning, you just care about getting in to college.

When did you send in your final transcript?

so did you get rescinded or no?

All C’s and a D = less than a 2.0 GPA

That isn’t senioritis. That is just plain stupidity.

Perhaps it’s time for a “reality check.” Seriously. Your poor grades may be an indicator of your ability to keep up with the challenging and demanding course work at UIUC. At a school of this size, no one will care whether you attend class or not or keep-up with assignments. You probably don’t want to hear this, but I think you need to get back on track at your local junior college.

Unfortunately…I agree with savant… Chalk it up to getting an A in the bigger class of “Real Life” 101…
But make the lesson count. Good luck to you.
