Hi everyone this is my first post ever on this site so bear with me if I’m doing something wrong. I am a senior in high school looking to attend a four year in the fall if possible. I want to major in Film Production (with a focus on directing) but my parents are pushing me to look for something else to double major in like business or computer science. Would it be possible to double major with a Film Production major or should I look to moving Film Production to a minor instead. However if I do this how different would the course look compared to if I was majoring in it. Thank you in advance everyone
I would say that it depends on whether or not you’re pursuing a BA or a BFA, as well as where you want to go.
Depending on which degree and university you apply for, the load for taking two majors may be just a bit too much. For example, I’ve been looking at double-majoring at USC, and my primary choice would also be production. I’ve already seen dozens of people say that they’ve been able to successfully take on Production and another major outside of the School of Cinematic Arts.
From my research and experience, my suggestion would be to ask current and previous students at your specific choices on your shortlist, as well as really study the curriculum layout of your universites’ Production programs. These two avenues should help you gauge just how weighty the course is. Of course, part of the choice is knowing how much work you can handle.
I hope that’ll help you make your choice. I’m a prospective undergraduate myself, so I know how difficult the decisions can be.
