Possible to get into UVA with only 3 years of foreign language?

I am currently a sophomore in high school and am currently selecting courses for next year. For the purpose of providing some background, I will be completing Spanish 3 this year and will most likely be maintaining a UW 4.0 GPA. Next year, I plan on taking many Advanced Placement classes, but my schedule does not allow for Spanish to be added into the mix without dropping a class that I would actually LIKE to take. I would really love to attend UVA, but don't want to base my entire high school career trying to please an admission board. Basically, my question is this: Would I be setting myself up for rejection or a much harder time without continuing on to Spanish 4 and then AP Spanish, even if I remained a competitive applicant holistically?
Thanks!

It all depends on the rest of your resume.

I took French 1/2, then Spanish 1/2. Pretty easy courses, not impressive at all. However, I also applied to the eschool with good grades in all my high level math/science classes, along with math/science related extra-curriculars.

If I were to guess, I would say that only 3 years of FL won’t really hurt you much if you do well in your other classes.

I got accepted OOS taking only 3 Spanish. I did not have enough room in my schedule to fit in Spanish junior year.

Thanks Cane, thanks exactly where I am right now.

The reason they want you to do it is because you have to take 4 semesters of a language here and 3 years in HS might only be 2 semesters or so (I know one girl who only placed into Latin 1) as opposed to if you do AP where you could get a good enough score to place out. Have you considered taking the equivalent class dual enrollment to stay on track?

Once you get the hang of the learning curve, you can self-study the language yourself. How well do you do on placement tests?
