I am currently taking honors pre-calc (acing it with a 97 average right now) and regular psychology. On school days, I have about 4 hours to study each night. I will porbably pull in most of my studying from weekends and school breaks. I have not taken AP classes before because my school doesn't offer them and I would like to know whether it would be overwhelming to self study for these AP tests in about 3 months. I plan to major in Neuroscience and minor or dual major in philosophy while being on a pre-med.

APs:
calc BC
biology
psychology
AP chem
AP stats

I do not recommend self-studying for all of those tests, as they are considered some of the most difficult by most students (chem, BC, even bio) and you have never taken an AP course before. That being said, I oiuld study for one, two or even three, but I do not recommend both of the sciences you have listed.

I forgot to include that I took honors chem last year. So what if I only took stats, psychology and bio? Maybe calc Bc? (I’m very good at math). And also: what if I took a online class to guide me?

I think if you took stat, bio, and psych, you would find that you would not have enough time for another. However, it is your choice ultimately, so do whatever you feel comfortable with.

As for online classes, I have no experience with them, but I have heard they force you to stick to a timeline (which may be a good thing with the number of self-studies you plan on taking).

I don’t know how diligent of a student you are, but AP biology is not difficult just lengthy (it’s just pure memorization) and I had a really crappy biology teacher and basically crammed a whole review book in 2 weeks and got a 5. AP Psychology is one of the easiest AP’s so you could probably cram that one in three months. AP Statistics is also doable, there aren’t too many concepts it’s just a matter of practicing the FRQs. AP Chemistry is very hard if you haven’t taken an honors chemistry class, and even with that it’s still pretty hard. If you really want to take calculus do calculus AB first. I don’t know how the BC material is since I’m currently taking it, but to me AB was pretty easy but I also have a strong math background. Not to mention that you’re currently taking honors precalc and you need somewhat of a strong background in precalc. That being said, taking all of those classes together would probably be overwhelming especially if you only have four hours a night.

thanks for the info. I can probably pull in 5-6hrs of studying each school night and even more on weekends and vacations. The reason I’m doing BC is because I will study both AB and BC but take the BC test since the BC test has AB topics on it and gives an AB sub score. My math teacher could probably help me out with BC on her extra help days. Most likely, Ill end up studying for psy, stat, bio (I’m good at memorizing) and Calc BC. I’m still contemplating chem.

Calc BC (or at least, Calc AB) is possible with a decent amount of math intuition and online stuff like Khan Academy.

Psychology is a cakewalk (I only got a 4 on it because I only studied the weekend before… if I put another day of work into it, easy 5).

Biology’s possible, but difficult. It’s mostly just memorization and understanding of simple processes. To compensate, AP Bio’s also the densest and most content-heavy AP course you can find. Possible, but it’ll be difficult.

Wouldn’t recommend chemistry. It has a lot of bio-like memorization but even more conceptual like processes. There’s a reason AP Chem’s the most infamous AP science.

Stats is possible too, but you have a fair amount of memorization and conceptual learning. It’s not quite the complexity of calc, and nor is it the density of like bio. Possible with online stuff like Khan Academy as well.

If I were you, I’d take psych, calc, and maybe stats; bio and chem (even with both respective classes) becomes a disgustingly painful combination.

Biology is a lot harder than people think to self-study in a short amount of time. It’s possible with a year, but unless you can cram about 750+ terms into your mind in about 3 months, it’s pretty tough.

I wouldn’t take them all at once, maybe take AP Stats/AP Psych and one of the others…or both AP Stats and AP Psych and one of the others. AP Bio, Calc BC, and Chem are pretty tough…especially in three months.

BTW! Nice name…fellow big d sub here :P, Number1Boss is awesome.

A super soldier would say yes. Especially if you are able to get all of your homework done at school, find time to hang out with friends/have fun, and a full 4 hours a night is a HUGE amount of studying and I think it can be done.

Thanks for the advice guys. Im going to go with psy, stats and calc. My math teacher has actually started to teach my class regular calc material. I will borrow textbooks from my public school district and use review books to supplement my learning.

I would assume you are not a senior, so I think that’s a good number of self-studies. You can always take AP Bio and AP Chem next year or self-study it as soon as the school year begins. Good luck!
