possible Transfer student, Rutgers Vs. Pitt

i am currently a freshmen at Upitt, Neuroscience major, i started this term and lost a few opportunities only available to fall student. due to shifting interests and in light of some new Info, i may be dropping the Neuroscience major in favor of something else. i am considering going to med school so i figure why take such a difficult major with classes i won't necessarily like when i can just do my pre-med requirements and take more courses im interested in (Particularly Philosophy and Religion) with a different major.

I'm trying to make a decision as to whether to transfer to my state school (Rutgers) and take all the courses i want during the summer, spring and fall terms, or stay here at Pitt and pick and choose which courses i have time to take during the Fall/Spring. the problem is primarily money/debt im going to have once i get out of med school. we had a speaker come into a class of mine and tell us about med school, and one of the point she made was to try to accumulate as little debt as possible during your undergraduate years. id be paying half the tuition if i went to Rutgers and my living expenses would be cut drastically due to being only an 1 hour away from my house (instead of 6 like i am now).

i was wondering if anyone knew :
-quality of the philosophy/Religion/Science courses at Rutgers
-if they were comparable to pitt's
-If it is possible to get research as an undergrad at Rutgers (it is very easy to at pitt)
-and if this idea as a whole makes sense to anyone but me

another concern aside from stockpiling debt and getting into med school is whether the economic times to come will even allow me to get the loans i need, but i guess it relates back to this choice.

any and all relative information is greatly appreciated!

In regards to philosophy, Rutgers' program actually ranks higher than Pittsburgh. If you are honestly considering medical school as an option, transfer immediately to Rutgers. You don't need to incur unnecessary debt. Additionally by the time you reach senior year you might realize t hat medical school is not what you want to do. If you stay at Pittsburgh you would have incurred tremendous debt for what?
The difference between Rutgers and Pitt(in regards to quality of education) is not substantial enough for you to pay that much of difference for one of those schools.

does anyone know about the research situation at Rutgers?

umm Pitt: #2 ranked philosophy program in the country, way better medical school than Rutgers (#17 I think), enough said, stay at Pitt, and Pitt is a much better school socially than Rutgers

I agree with Pierre on the social life between both of them, and the med school(doesn't really matter for OP). But, Rutgers philosophy on the grad level is 2nd in the world only behind NYU. That does not really reflect so much on the undergrad level in terms of quality of an education but it does reflect on the quality of faculty. But honestly, as a Philosophy major at Rutgers currently, I am going to try to transfer to a LAC for more of a personal experience which you need for Philosophy.

could you elaborate on the thing with social life? i thought a school with more people would be better for that. also, i am not going to go to rutgers purely based on it's philosophy program, since thats a side interest. my primary goal is to go to med school, and if it doesn't work out, i want a degree that i can do something with (AKA not just philosophy). if i do go to rutgers id be a "Cell Biology and Neuroscience"/Philosophy Major (maybe a religion minor). which would u guys say is better in terms of preperation for med school, and if it is pitt, is it significant enough a difference to mound on Debt? (i know liek answered but i want multiple opinions)
