yeah except he's not the only one who can get to that screen lol

DISCLAIMERFOR STANFORD***
I mohitthukral did not, and have not attempted to login to axess or other affiliated stanford websites in order to login with another's username and password

im just facing the facts, im not ranting. Im sure they have computers that update the system in less than 5 seconds, so why would all of those accepted not be ready(like sadfaces). And why is it so far fetched that no other cc'er on this particular thread got in?
its very possible to me anyway.

"Guys calm down. Now. If what sadface is saying is true, he likely got admitted. My sunet id needed to be sponsored, aka I had to accept the offer of admission. Blah. Stop over analyzing this. One more week."

Did you read my post? If you need a sponsor from the faculty, you are NOT part of the Stanford community right now. It doesn't even make sense. Admitted students are NOT part of the Stanford community either. ANYONE can make an ID if they have a sponsor, theoretically. And enrolled students don't need one.

then why can't anyone get to the same place as sadface?

No idea. Perhaps he was involved with Stanford in some capacity earlier. Perhaps he, like other people on this board, tried to create an ID.

Do you understand how the sponsorship works? Go to the help page on the website. People who are already affiliated with the university don't need sponsors. Clearly, people who need sponsors, then, are not enrolled students, nor would it make sense for them to be admitted students. And as far as I know, your ID is NOT necessarily the number: it is anything, and makes up your Stanford email address (according to the page).

I know how the process works. If you need a sponsor from the faculty, you are not part of the Stanford community. You are partially correct. You will still get a sunetID if you get admitted but it will only be partially functional. Aka you can use axess but you can't check webmail. Therefore, you are not a fully functional part of the Stanford community. Don't debate this part with me because I went through the process last year. Ask anyone who got admitted and they'll tell you this is true. However, every admitted student, who has not accepted the offer of admission, is under that category of requiring sponsorship. That is how you check your financial aid, etc, etc. I am 100% sure of this. Seriously, there is no debating this actually.

But Morsmordre, the website also says that anyone (theoretically) can request sponsorship. That doesn't apply only to admitted students. Of course they can have IDs, like other people who want access for whatever reason.

So, how can one tell if one is an admitted student who needs sponsorship versus a normal person who needs sponsorship? What does the page look like for admitted students, given that a person on another thread said that they couldn't log on before last year but were accepted?

well it's started working for other people....
so maybe it's true

What do you mean, Oprah? And if that is true, wouldn't it mean that they are updating them?

Baelor, if I remember correctly you had to put in your admissions ID number. That's how you know if you're different from the pack. If your number works then cool, if it doesn't then they are still updating. And for the person who said it takes like 5 seconds lol... first off regional admissions officers make decisions at different times, second most of Stanford's networking stuff is mad slow, which is ironic considering Stanford has a great compsci program. So yeah, chill everyone, and that it's working for more people now makes more sense as the decision date gets closer.

c'mon....I'm just trying to protect myself...hehe....
I second michelle's motion.....

there can only be one explanation as to why only a select few of us can make an account. The only thing that makes sense is that they have been admitted. the question remains whether they are still updating or not.

sigh, this is pathetic, my sunet id is fully functional and i can access stanford's different departments with my sunet id.
when I access with my sunet id, i can access the many functions without the sponsorship sign, now does that mean I am in stanford?
no
it just means, i still have my privelages from stanford summer school and they work

*THIS METHOD DOES NOT WORK *
do not expect it to work, and it does not signify anything. can we please close this case?

Supereagle, remember when someone said that a very narrow range of numbers out of many (like 1000) or something worked? Why do you think this is if the list is finalized? Also, do the people with accounts have ANY ties to the school at all? etc. You can't just make a blanket statement based on nothing. Why not try justifying what you're saying?

Well, so far, both sadface and phi6--the only CCers that have access--hold prior ties to Stanford.

Until we get more input from people who were able to access that page, this remains inconclusive.

umm tennis fan, I got access too and I have prolly far less impressive stats than phi or sadface and I do NOT have any ties to Stanford. In fact Stanford never even sent anything to me until I added myself to their emailing list.

Mike, I saw your other thread--you said you were able to make an account, but all of us could input additional information to create a SUnet ID.

Unless, of course, you mean that you got the same page as sadface: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v255/hynfaeries0/Untitled-1.png
If that's the case, then congratulations.

Mike, yes: you had to input information, right? It wasn't your ID number? How far on the website did you have to go before reaching that page?
