I remember last year there was an applicant who got in with SAT scores in the 1000's. I don't know if he/she was a troll, but they did say they had a compelling story - had to work to support the family, did homework into the wee hours of the morning, extremely impoverished inner city school, etc. It's all about context!

I would say that you have interesting ECs, especially the TV series that you were involved in, and your GPA is in the Brown range. Your SAT scores, however, are low. Given this, Brown is a reach. I hope that you have applied to other schools. Good luck, though, and do post your results when you receive them.

NO WAY! I have lower scores! Woot! Congrats, they're actually not the lowest scores sent...i got a 1680 and i'm submitting them...except i just retook the SAT, SOOOO...i shot for a 1950+, hoping for that lol.

My scores are around the same as yours, plus I only got a 25 on the ACT. So, no, you're not the only one ;-). It's good that you've taken it upon yourself to become so involved. Also, there's your essays and overall presentation for the admissions staff to keep in mind.

However, hopefully you have a safety that you wouldn't mind going to just in case. I actually like my safety and I was already accepted into it, so if I don't get into Brown i'll be a little dissapointed but other than that shrugs.

im sure they are haha, as they should be. People like us know we won't get in, yet we think we will (maybe with great essays.) Like, I know i dont have a rats ass in hell chance haha.

The sorry thing is that scores count. I think one of the reasons I got in as a transfer (rejected as a freshman) was that I got my scores up. And unless you're a legacy or a recruited athlete, it's hard to make up for low SATs because you're competing against people with great EC's, essays, AND SAT's.

But that doesn't mean it's impossible or that you shouldn't try. By all means apply. You can't get in if you don't apply!

Kat927,
You probably know, but others might not. Cedric went to a very bad inner city school and had very difficult family circumstances (father in jail, single mother, evictions, etc). To get in with very low scores, most people probably have some extenuating circumstances. However, it seems that Brown can find those "diamonds in the rough." From what I remember, Cedric did well at Brown and graduated with a 3.3 GPA.

Cedric Jennings is a real person. His story was told in the book "A Hope in the Unseen" by Ron Suskind. The subtitle is something like a journey from the inner city to the ivy league. Great book/inspiring story.
