I will be retiring from the Air Force 01FEB15 and utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for any university, books, and $3,800 for rent for the next 4 years. My GPA has plummeted to 2.75 over the last 12 months due to my tour in Afghanistan, though.

My question is that I own a house in NNY and will need to take weekend or "hybrid" courses. Is it possible to get a degree in Business Administration from Fordham over weekends? When are you removed from the class because of attendance? After missing 25%? 50%?

I am simply trying to attain ad degree without paying two mortgages. Worst case scenario, I'll have to sell my house and move to the Bronx. Also, I wouldn't mind any other university in the NYC area with hybrid or weekend courses, but lax on attendance. Thanks in advance!

I would not recommend selling your house in order to attend college in NYC. Why not get the degree in an Online Program. They offer the same exact degree as the traditional classroom and you log into the class weekly at your convenience. Here are 3 NY area schools that offer an undergraduate degree online.

Pace University
A private institution with a 100-year history, Pace University began providing online education in 2004. The school’s distance learning program, called iPace, offers bachelor’s degree completion programs in business studies, nursing, professional communication studies and professional technology studies. Additional resources available to iPace students include counseling services, an online library and online tutoring.

St. John’s University,
St. John’s University, a private institution, provides a number of online undergraduate, master’s degrees, and advanced certificates in a number of areas including business, criminal justice and liberal studies. All courses are recorded, accessible online and available to online students at their convenience. Other resources include online registration, financial aid, library and campus ministry.

Marist College
Marist College, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, is a private institution founded in 1929. Marist students often benefit from the school’s special relationship with IBM. For decades, the IBM staff has worked with Marist students to brainstorm and try innovative technologies. One product of this partnership is the college’s Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Library and Museum website.

While stationed at Fort Drum, New York, I put up with the Watertown area. Now that I am retiring, I REALLY don’t see myself spending a lot of time here. This place has nothing going for it.

By taking online classes, the Air Force will pay around 750/month. By adding a hybrid class in NYC, they will pay 3800/month. I would much rather collect retirement/$3800 while visiting NYC on the weekends than stay in Watertown, collect retirement/$750 and work a dead in job in this town.

My only issue is the drive up to NYC during the winter. That is why I was concerned with the attendance policies of Fordham’s weekend courses. I don’t know how many sessions I’ll miss in Jan/Feb due to the weather, but once spring comes around, I’m golden. So again I ask, what is Fordham’s policy on attendance for weekend courses?

Contact the College of Professional Studies and ask about their programs. Below is some information that I found online:

Fordham is the only New York City university ranked in the Military Times’ top 25 “veteran-friendly” colleges and universities in the country.

Thanks a million for the information, Adamsley. I’ve been running around trying to get my retirement paperwork together and haven’t been on the site in some time. Fordham being the only NYC university in the military top 25 is great news!

Freddi, I did read that Pace University in NYC is also military friendly so you should check out both colleges.
