Post ALL transfer questions here!

Hey all, so it's basically the time of year most transfer applications are due by, so I figured I would post a thread where anyone can ask a question, and maybe we can help each other out by answering questions we might have some info on. Try to mention the college you're applying to, since some require extra stuff (portfolios, etc.)

I'll post a few, you guys can feel free to post, and hopefully we can help each other out :P

My question: (CALS)
- What exactly do they mean by Official secured copy of a college trasncript? I know about the Official thing, but do they want it to be in an envelope, and the envelope flap signed by someone like the HS transcript? Who needs to sign the envelope for the college trasncript?

Post away!

Official transcript means that the transcript must come directly from your college registrar and must be addressed to the recipient (ie. it cannot be an official transcript addressed to the student...then forwarded by the student to Cornell).

The college registrar might include a stamp from the registrar's office on the envelope seal...it might not. As long as the transcript comes to Cornell directly from the registrar...you're golden.

Ooohh, thanks, I would have probably just asked for it on a paper copy, put it in an envelope, and just write out my home address and TO Cornell's address that they give.

Never seen/asked for my transcript yet, so I have no idea how these things are lol, I was thinking you go to the registrar, they print it out or something and you have it just like that on paper.

Sounds weird, but exactly how many envelopes are you guys sending it in? I have 4-5 envelopes in all:

One envelope for the hs transcript

One envelope for the Official college transcript

One envelope with thew teacher recommendation in it

One envelope for the college official report

One envelope for the college Mid-term report

Is anyone putting ALL materials in like one big orange folder? The hs transcript and college transcript are given in envelopes already I think, but are you combining the recom, official report, and mid term report all into one envelope?

all my stuff's going in one envelope except Fin. aid i'm a gt though, so there's less stuff to send.

here's my question:

How hard is it to adjust to the coursework? I know it's going to be much more work than my current school, I just hope it's not an overwhelming difference.

Coming from a weak biology program at my college to Cornell was a little bit of a shock. I found myself having to readjust my study habits and learning skills...I had a drop in my GPA but rebounded in the spring.

My GPA was never as high as it was at my old college...but it was respectable. My advice to you is to come to Cornell ready to hit the ground running. Work hard and don't let yourself fall behind. Know when to seek help...and don't forget to take a break every so often!

I think the high school transcript needs to be "secure" also. So you have to have your high school send your high school transcript also. The letter of recommendations and all you can send on your own. Just make sure your professors signs the recommendation and letter.

To grantorture:

I echo what dewdrop said - you really have to hit the ground running. I coasted through high school and my first year of college elsewhere without ever taking a book home. My first semester at Cornell (this last semester) I really screwed up, despite the fact that:

I knew Cornell was one of the hardest schools and I had to work really hard.
I had already told myself "I am GOING to work hard! Study every night!"
I actually did start studying for once.

It wasn't until my sub-3.0 GPA for last semester that I freaked out - and this semester I've got a heavier courseload but I would guess I have all A's and a B right now. I expect at least a 3.5 GPA this semester - no easy feat at Cornell. It just really takes most people that first semester GPA drop to see how high the stakes are.

Unless you're a genius with an amazing work ethic, you should start preparing for that drop right now. Just remember - it's expected. Don't let it freak you out. Learn from it, and channel that into your next semester.

Bumped, I have some I'll ask in a bit

How can we tell the application is for Transfers? I'm up to the end, is it supposed to say:

**I wish to submit my application to the following at this time:
Cornell University
Regular Decision| Fall 2009

I have print previewed my application and it looks exactly as I intend.|Print Previe**w

Is it supposed to say REGULAR DECISION? I am logged in as:
"You are logged in as a Transfer Applicant"

And it has the essay question saying "what are your reasons for transferring, etc." But it seems weird because Regular Decision sounds like freshman applications lol

how long should i wait for my high school transcript to be process? I send my high school transcript on Feb 13th. And on my Net ID it says they havn't receieved it yet.

should i send another copy of my high school transcript?

The best thing you can do is call and figure out if they have received it or not. I would guess that there's just a delay because of how many things they have received though.

Most of the time, people send in things during a busy period, which means there are thousands of other materials all in the bunch. It could take a while for them to process things though, but since the deadline is coming up, I would call and ask them about it just in case, it's the best you can do.

Everything that you submit to Cornell has to be received by the processing center and scanned into their computer system. It's possible that the materials have been received but have not been entered into the system. You can call and find out if they've at least received your materials and that they're sitting in a file somewhere.

@dragonneedspank - they said do not submit duplicates unless they call you.

My instructor evaluation was mailed in (from Asia though) on Jan 22. It didn't show up as processed until late February. I figured it took a week to get there and four weeks to get processed (as is the usual time).

@ Micny yes it supposed to say that.

What about letters of recommendation that are sent from college professors, high school teachers, employers etc. Would we just call and see if they have them? They don't show up on net id right?

im applying to ILR, does anyone know what the chances of getting in there are? and as far as the paper work goes, i sent everything out a while ago, yet waiting on my mid grade reports because i had no grades to report...

so my question is, can the mid grades be unofficial (as in I put it in an envelope myself and mail it out)? or does the school have to send them out in all their official glory?

<3 thanks

Yeah, you can put it in an envelope and mail it out.

neat! do you know the rate of ILR acceptance? ive got a 3.667, all honors classes, PTK, a bunch of stupid extra stuff.. i had a real nice interview as well.

any idea?

So does how do you all feel about this? I'm so nervous!

How does it work with transferring between schools? If someone is a sophomore in engineering, can she transfer to some kind of writing major or law easily? how does that work?
