Hey. For all the past and present guarenteed transfer people, I have a few questions.
How was the transferring process like? Do GTs fill out the same applications as regular transfer students? Do we have to rewrite essays and resend SAT scores?
Does cornell give the GTs good financial aid packages?
How easy did your credits transfer? What happens if a college credits classes differently? (For example, a class=1 credit or a certain hours. )Did the classes you take at another college prepare you well for cornell classes? Do the grades from your old college average with your cornell grades in your transcript?
How is the place we dorm? I hear GTs and transfers stay at the transfer center, which will be newly renovated by fall 2007.

For the present GTs, are you going to aim to transfer? What colleges are you all going to?

The GT process is really quite painless. I filled in just two simple forms about courses and grades at current college; no essays and no SAT resends. Can't say the credits transferred spectacularly well. To be fair, I'm doing Psych now and am transferring to the Hotel School.

Another question:
How does cornell view high school grades for GTs? I'm guessing that cornell puts more weight on the 1st year in college grades, but my grades are going from As to Bs.

Does cornell give the GTs good financial aid packages? Tough to really say, I wouldn't have qualified anyways.

How easy did your credits transfer? Cornell can be rather stingy if you dont take the right classes. Consult with ilr office of student services before you take classes at another college.

What happens if a college credits classes differently? Then they'll count differently or wont transfer.

Did the classes you take at another college prepare you well for cornell classes? Not really, Cornell's classes are alot harder.

Do the grades from your old college average with your cornell grades in your transcript? No.

How is the place we dorm? I hear GTs and transfers stay at the transfer center, which will be newly renovated by fall 2007. You dont have to live there, but i suggest it for the social benefits.

Just how stingy are they? I mean, I am pretty sure that I will receive credit for mainstream courses like Econ, Psych and Calc, but there are a couple of courses unique to NYU that I took (a writing course, a natural science course - all part of NYU's liberal art's requirements) and I definitely will not be happy if they don't transfer.

From my personal experience, they seem to place a greater emphasis on the college grades than the high school grades. After all, the conditions are that you will be accepted if you fulfill the conditions in college. I had some Bs for college as well, but GPA was maintained above the required, so unless you dip below that, there's no reaon to worry. :)

y17k: the courses you mentioned will probably come under electives so they will transfer. I'm not even doing my prospective Cornell degree at my current uni, but all the credits transferred under that.

i was also a guaranteed transfer for fall 2007. However, because of tragic circumstances (parental hospitalization, etc), my grades have dipped. For my final grades, I will be getting 3 A's, 2 B's, and D in a half year course in second semestr. Do you think I will still have my gt status if I explain my high school situation and make 3.7+ in college?

o god at first I thought u meant at college. Of course you are fine. Family is considered a priority for MANY people, and having it cause a couple bad grades during final semester of senior year is nothing. You MIGHT, need to explain things, but I'm sure u are safe. Good luck with your parents and don't worry about this whole thing!
