Hi,
I am a sophomore at Williams college. Currently I am the Apple Campus Rep and it is my duty to answer any questions you may have about getting a mac and inform you about the sweet deal Apple has with college students. As a Williams student, you get an educational discount on any Mac Notebook (Macbook, Macbook Pro), software, iMac, and Mac Pro!
There are many reasons why Macs are better than their competitors. They don't crash; no spyware or viruses; they don't require you to install software so that you can be online here at the college (Novell for Windows); you can edit and make movies easily; it runs Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint; and most importantly they are very fast machines! If you have any questions about macs or school, feel free to contact me. Also, there is a special offer currently going on that when you buy a mac, you also get an iPod nano free (if wish to pay around $50, you can upgrade to an iPod). This offer doesn't end until September so if you chose to get a Mac, you have plenty of time.

THE question - how much IS this discount? how sweet is the deal? :-P

Williams students get $100 off all macbook models or $200 off all macbook pro models. For the summer, if you buy a mac you get a free iPod (4GB) nano. You also get a free printer with the purchase of any mac laptop. I'll be happy to answer any more questions but you might want to check out

Hahaha nice Sal.

Do most students who get macbook go with the faster processor and the 2GB or the basic (assuming no video/film making or gaming?). What difference would I notice with the higher level memory and processor running database, office and whatever math packages we use? Thanks

can we apply the rebate to the laptop or do we only get it if we get an ipod at the same time?

highway 9,
It's really hard to notice the difference between 2.0 and 2.16 GHz. All macbooks come with Intel's Core2Duo chip so the processor is very fast since they have two cores. 1 GB of RAM/memory is more than enough for running multiple apps at the same time. You can upgrade to 2GB but that would only be advisable if you are into heavy programs like PhotoShop. Even with the base model of macbooks, you can still edit video, run office and game without having a slow computer. The math packages you would use are not really that processor intensive so the mac would have no problem running them with either configurations. If you'll be taking Math 105 this incoming semester, go to any mac and check out the application grapher. It's an incredible math app that graphs in 3-D that comes in every mac computer. Feel free to ask anymore questions.

sixsixty,
Great question! If you want to take advantage of the special offer with the iPod, you have to buy both the iPod nano and the computer on the same receipt.

wow! is that sal? miss you man!

I reckon it should also be made known that you can get a $100 rebate on any printer purchased on the same receipt, which basically means free printer since some of them cost just that.

That is correct. Apple uses the rebate system so that you have more flexibility when it comes to choice. In this way of doing business, one doesn't have to get an iPod nano if they want some other model. They can upgrade to a regular iPod or a different model. The same idea goes with the printer. Sixsixty makes a very good point in illustrating that it is indeed a rebate but in the end you do get it for free.

is there a time restraint on when to purchase the mac with the rebates included?

The promotional offer that gives you a free iPod nano ($199 rebate) runs until the 16th of September. If you want to take advantage of this offer, you must buy both the iPod nano and the qualifying mac (ie. all apple laptops) on the same rebate by that date. The offer for the free printer ($100 rebate) with the purchase of any qualifying mac ends on July 23, 2007. The Williams student educational discount is available 24/7/365 via the online store. (see earlier posts for the URL link). If you have any other questions feel free to post them.
