Since my own parents aren't very knowledgeable on this topic I am hoping some of you can help me. Right now, I am on track for graduating a semester early, maybe a whole year, if they offer the two (possibly three) courses I need in the summer as they did last year. I know there is no guarantees that they will be offered in the summer.

I'm thinking of going for a Masters in Public Health afterwards but I do not want to go to grad school in my current state. I would like to move to California, and yes I have reasons besides the warm weather. Would it be better for me to go work for a year to start the process to become a resident of the state? I know it will be tremendously costly in CA and depending on what university I end up at I may be able to split the cost of housing with a relative who is planning on staying there. Is it fine to take a year off after my undergrad? If it matters at all I'm majoring in Kinesiology as an undergrad and I'm already looking at a second internship hopefully with my city's health department, or in a hospital. I'm also applying to do research at my current university.

It is often preferable to have some work before applying to graduate school. I think working in the state where you want to obtain residency is a good plan.

This can be a good idea, do be sure to look at the residency form requirements and ensure you follow all of them. Sometimes something you never thought of can snag the process.

It’s not necessarily the warm weather, but the fact that it isn’t rapidly changing from 50’s to 30’s in one day as it will trigger a migraine so I want weather that is pretty consistent. Then I have asthma that only flares up in winter as I’m inside more. Lastly, I have pretty bad allergies as my sinus opening are always inflamed even in the summer.

I was thinking of Arizona but I was told it would be worse for my allergies and asthma since when I lived there before I was always sick with upper respiratory. Also a relative lives there now who isn’t any better off despite it being the reason why her mother moved and the court allowed it.

I’m keeping my options open, but I am looking for an internship in CA I won’t be applying until the summer of 14 for out of state internships seeing how I’m taking two courses in this coming up summer, and one next winter.

Thanks for the tips! I will look into residency as I would like to get that established so I’m not paying out of state tuition no matter where I end up.
