Post-Visit Handwritten Thank You Note?

Back when D15 was touring schools she wrote her regional reps hand written notes expressing interest and complimenting the school for a great visit/tour/info session (if the school did a great job and was going to be on her short list of applications). Do any applicants still send hand written notes? Seems like everything is online so maybe receiving a hand written letter is a pain since files are digital?

She has a very short list- has recently visited a few campuses and attended a virtual open house for another. Just wondering if handwritten is a nice gesture or if email is the clear way to communicate?

Great question. My son wrote handwritten thank you to his recent student tour guides. I’m not sure if an email cc’d to AO would have left a better paper trail.

D20 sent handwritten notes to interviewers at the schools where she applied. She also managed to meet the VP of Admissions at what would become her ED school and she maintained fairly regular contact with him - letting him know when she was visiting and thanking him for meeting with her. She ended up letting him know when she submitted her application and he replied on a Sunday to tell her he would look for it in the morning and thanked her for letting him know. The school emphasizes personal connection and community so she figured it only helped her application.

Those kids who wrote thank-you notes by hand are fortunate to have mothers who taught them to do so!

Either handwritten or email thank you notes are perfectly acceptable.

None of my kids did any thank you notes during college applications. They do for presents from family.
