Congrats, everyone! Good luck to all who were waitlisted and to those rejected, I felt your pain last year to some schools I applied to. Where ever you all end up I know you will find happiness. :)

Congrats to those admitted!

Just realize, if you are on the waiting list and aren't fairly sure of attending UNC if admitted in June (especially if UNC is not your #1) please give up your spot to someone else willing to go, its the decent thing to do.

LOL!!!! someone REALLLYYY wants a spot.

i agree with the quote vc08 brought to the table. There are LIMITED amount of spaces in the freshmen class, yet alone, in the waiting list pool. It all depends on how many accepted incoming class applicants accept the offer and how many decline. For those who are in the waiting list, the right thing to do is to act upon the offer if UNC is your first choice, not your safety school.(For the sake of others)

I would like to comment on the waitlist.

It really is up to the individual to decide if he wants to be placed on the waitlist. I guess I don't think we should encourage or discourage others on this. But it all works out. Say they end up with 300-400 on the is and oos list. Then they rank the list. Well, wouldn't you think that the top 50 or so on the list will or has already gotten into other good schools. Even if they stay on the list, they might go ahead and commit to another school. so unc will have to go down the list until they get to the ones that are still interested. And as the hs counselor said, if you are 275 on the list of 300, it won't matter how many decide to not go unless it is 270 or more! see where i am going with this....it isn't who is staying or not staying on the list, it is where you fall on the list? it would be so interesting to see how they make that determination. so you have 700, 700, 700 and so does 20 others so then you all have 4.3 so what is the next criteria? they must have so much fun figuring this all out.

Then they rank the list.

[/Quote]
actually, no, they don't rank the list. It explicitly states this in the letter.

Once they know how many are going, IF they have room in the class, they re-review the waitlisted applicants and make a decision from there. That's why they ask for final grades and ranks and such. It's like getting deferred; they don't rank deferred applicants, they review them all over again once new info is in.

The admin told the hs counselor that they do rank the waitlist. Might want to call for clarification.

They do not rank the wait list. They wait to see who they get a positive response from, then they will rank those ... still considering the in-state pool and the out-of-state pool ...

from the hs counselor. this is what they told her.
