pre-psychobio freshman

LA cluster

is this pretty good? i've never done chemistry in highschool so i'm kind of worried about that..think i gotta get some tutoring or do study groups for that one

is there time to work out at the gym daily and party?

Yes, that's fine.

I had like zero chemistry in high school since I had bad instructors. Trust me. If you figure out in advance or immediately what you don't know, there's your TA, Covel Tutor, AAP Tutor (if applicable), other TAs, and finally your professor who can help you out.

For your second question - yes. It all depends on you and how you manage your time but yes definitely.

math3a

performing arts cluster

i'm interested in taking a fiatlux, but someone told me that P/NP classes count as F's for many medical schools. i don't want to take that risk. is it true that they'll count as F's or do the med schools understand UCLA's system?

also - how is the performing arts cluster? easy? hard? what do you need to do to get an A? (:

i took a fiat lux last fall and srp which is also graded as p/np. im pretty sure they wont count as F's because they are only offered as p/np.

No they won't count as F's - in fact, med schools couldn't care less - its a 1 unit class. If you started taking upper division classes P/NP, that might be a red flag, but even then, they aren't viewed as F's - they are viewed as just what they are - P/NP classes.

When you fill out the AMCAS, there is a box to signify that a class was P/NP

Are you going to medical school next year, Icarus?

Not this upcoming (2007-2008) year, but next year, yeah thats the plan.... submitting apps right now

thanks mme-lin for reassuring me :]

hey Icarus, is there any advice you can give for me on how to plan out my pre-med career as an undergrad at UCLA? When did you volunteer and intern..the 2nd year? Do I start studying for the MCAT and start apps in my 3rd year? And how did u make your resume competitive while maintaining your sanity?

I don't think Icarus visits the UCLA sub-forum frequently. I'll start you off here though and see if that helps:

Go to the "Pre-Health" section on the side-bar.

i'm an incoming freshman. i had honors chem and ap bio 11 gr. do i need to review/scan through chem or bio material? i'll be taking chem 14a 2ND quarter as well as ls1 or 2 then.

No. Don't. Unnecessary. For one thing, you don't know how the course is designed. A smarter way of studying is figuring out what your professor wants, what the exams cover, etc... instead of memorizing Campbell's Biology and Zumdahl.
