I noticed that a lot of people have been creating schedule threads lately(and I have been tempted to post one myself), so I decided to create this thread where people can post their possible schedules and get good feedback on them. This will also help make the Berk forum less cluttered.

The format for replies to the thread should be as follows:

Schedule Poster-

Reply Person-

So people should give two ratings when they comment on someone’s posted schedule on this thread, even tho they don’t have to. I’ll start us off 'cause I really want to post my proposed schedule even tho anon5524485[note to him: thanks] already gave his input on it.

Thanks a lot for starting this thread It makes things a lot easier.

Grade: Freshman
College: Letters and Science
Major: Pre-Haas/Econ

Classes:
Chinese 1Y with Zhang (5 units)
ESPM 24 (freshman seminar) (1 unit)
History 6A with Tackett (4 units)
Math 16B with Scanlon (3 units)
Sociology 1 with Swidler (4 units)
Total:17 units

Notes: For the chinese class, I didn’t take the test yet so I’m not completely sure which class…Should I replace a class with Econ 1, instead of taking Econ 1/UGBA 10/Math 53 in the spring? I didn’t want to take Econ with Delong because they had summer homework, but I realized that’s a petty excuse…

I think it is worthwhile to have incoming freshman put down their possible majors and have current students put down their majors (or possible majors).

Grade: Freshman
College: College of Letters and Science
Possible Major(s): Computer Science, Math, Economics

Classes:
German R5A
Econ 1
Math 53 (have not signed up for yet)
Computer Science 61A (have not signed up for yet)

Notes: My L&S / CalSO counselors told me my schedule was too hard because I have 3 “hard” classes (Econ, Math, and CS), but the way I see it, I unfortunately don’t really have a choice because next semester I will be taking the next CS course and the next Math course and the next Econ course (life won’t get any easier for me).

Even tho I’ve never experienced a class at Berkeley, I’ll give my own ratings/feedback to get things started, but interpret them as you will.

@totalcaprice
A 5-unit language class and a weeder math class. Those seem like your only “hard” classes so I suppose that’s manageable.
Difficulty- 6/10(5/10 being average)
Reasonableness- 5/10

@JBeak12345
Are you triple majoring because your courseload and notes make it seem this way. Do you also have experience in the German language?
Difficulty- 8/10
Reasonableness- Need more info

@collegebound111
A weeder math class. Everything else seems swell.
Difficulty- 5/10
Reasonableness- 7/10

@ collegebound: The only class that might be a bit intense is Geography 20. There’s a ~500 word short-essay almost every week and 3 readers (~400-500 pages each). There’s one midterm that’s worth 15% and the final is 65%. However, you learn a lot about globalization in that class.

@Sagert & HelloAll: Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it(: I heard geo 20 was a bit intense from reading other threads, but I thought it’d be a good course to take (as for interests as well as major). Would you say it’s hard to get an A but possible to get a B?

@sagert
I am definitely not triple majoring. I am probably majoring in CS, which is why I need to take math + CS classes, and I want to try out mathematical finance stuff, which would require Econ 1 / 101A / 101B.

Also, I have absolutely no experience in German and I really suck at foreign languages. However, that is unrelated to German R5A because R5A is a R&C class.

I noticed you said other people had a “math weeder class.” Are the 16-series considered weeder courses? I thought the math weeder was 1B.

EDIT: Oh, I didn’t get to the part where you said you had never taken a class at Berkeley.

What I recommend is do the extra credit assignments. They’ll come in handy later on. His weekly papers are usually out of 25 and I only got 24/23’s on a few occasion. However, with the final I was able to get my A. So I really think the extra credit helped. They’re easy to do and you won’t regret it at the end.

Also, a quick note on his final. Although it is 65% (or whatever it is, if he decides to change it) is VERY straightforward. He gives you his notes which are lengthy but covers ALL of the lecture material. He gives you a set of questions before the final so that you can prep for them a week in advance. This made the final a lot easier. Also, asking for help/going to his office hour will work to your benefit EVEN if you don’t have much to talk about. He’s very approachable and can offer you insight into the papers/midterm/final.

In the end, you’ll learn a lot from his lectures.

@Jbreak: The 16 series aren’t as weed-y as the 1 series. Depending on what you’ve taken in HS, I don’t think it should be that big of a problem. However, I can’t forsure say its not a weeders class since I’ve never taken it. 1B on the other hand just screams out weed class.

Grade: Freshman
College: College of Natural Resources
Major: Forestry

Classes:
ESPM C12 - Intro to Enviro Studies (4)
Math 16A (3)
ESPM 24 - Frosh Seminar(1)
R1A - Native American Studies(4)
PACS 94 - Meditation(1)
Chem P (2 for CNR students)

Unit Count: 15

Notes(if any): Taking Chem P through the SLC since I last took general chem in sophomore year. I don’t feel like I’ve retained anything from that course and my instructor was sub-par. My main concern with my schedule is taking 6 classes, even though the unit count isn’t extraordinarily high. Thoughts?

Classes:
Anthro 3AC (4) - Introduction to Social/Cultural Anthropology
Stat 2 (4)
Slav R5A (4)
IntegBi C82 (2) - Introduction to Oceans

Unit Count: 14 (possibly will add some DeCal)

I hope this should not be a difficult schedule, though I am a terrible writer, so I am quite afraid of the R&C course… Do you know how much writing is approximately in the Anthro class?

Notes: I’m mostly concerned about L&S R44… From what I’ve read, it seems to be a difficult course, and I may not even need it for R&C depending on my AP Lit score. Should I postpone signing up for any R&C course to a different semester?
