Math 1B is required for MCB too… and you can’t AP out of that with Calc AB.

I should’ve mentioned that I took the BC test in May, and I’m reasonably confident that I scored a 5. That’s why I’m more concerned about R&C than the math prereqs.

Now we just gotta wait for ppl who have already experienced Berkeley to comment, lol

Thanks in advance guys(if anyone)!

@Ramblinman: 7C and 61A? I don’t know much about the other courses you are taking. But take a look at past 7C exams and see if you are really prepared (yay for AP Physics people I am glad! Except I have to take 7A and 7B over again. .__.)

61A lab is very time consuming, not hard, but takes time (and I still think Scheme is stupid.)

@Everyone else: doable.

Why did you have to take Phys 7A over again?

Does anyone have input on L&S R44? My CalSO is this Friday, and I’m wondering if I should Phase 1 that course…

Grade: Freshman
College: College of Engineering
Major: Nuclear Engineering (Might change)

Classes:
Math 1B
E 10
Physics 7A
Near Eastern Studies R1A (or should I take English R1A?)

Unit Counts: 15
Should I take E 92?
Is this okay?

@sheneverdies: Note that if you’re premed, you shouldn’t be APing out of anything that’s a premed req (math, science).

College: College of Engineering
Major: Undeclared

Classes:
Math 1B
E10
CS61A
Reading & Composition B (waived out A)

Unit Count: 15

Notes(if any): Should I replace R & C with Physics 7B?

@FishFood, I was under the impression that most med schools accept the 16 series to fulfill the math requirement.

@sheneverdies: I believe they do. And the 16 series is easier than the 1 series. The only problem is that MCB major requires 1A (and I think I saw that your intended major is MCB right?). So you’ll have to change that.

@NYSP2010, right, but I want to use my AP scores to get out of having to take the 1 series. Will that work?

College: College of L&S
Major: MCB

Classes:
Math 1A
Chem 1A
Asian Studies 10
Either Spanish 4 or Vision Science 24 (It’s a seminar).

Unit Count: Either 17 or 13 (17 if I do Spanish, 13 if I do seminar instead).

Notes(if any): The problem is I’ve always loved Spanish and been great at it, but I had to sign up for Math and Chem instead in Phase I and at the rate everything’s going now, all the spaces will be filled up by Phase II. Plus, the last time I had Spanish was 2 years ago, AP Spanish Language where I got a 4 on the test but it was 2 years ago. (though if I got into Spanish 4 I’m studying this summer to catch up.) Anyway, a 5 unit language class AND math AND chem sound horrendous. So I’m really leaning toward doing the seminar instead of Spanish, and I might not even have a choice if it gets filled up.

Recommendations? Sorry this is so long

@sheneverdies: Ohhh I get what you’re saying now. Hmm. I believe you can do that, but you ought to check with a Berkeley official to make sure.

@HunterBender, I’m actually taking Physics 7B this summer (starting next week!!!), so I will either be extremely prepared for 7C, or not prepared enough for 7B (AP Physics C was a year ago. I got a 5 on E&M so I think it’ll be the former as I will be studying fairly hard).

I’ve actually talked to the professor of CS 61A and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m hoping to get practice in now, watch a lot of the lectures, and I really don’t mind time consuming stuff.

@Themust, have you had you’re CalSO yet? I’m technically in Undeclared-Engineering, and they said there was absolutely no way to get around taking E92.

I wish I didn’t have to take it because I’m fairly set on my major.

Grade: Freshman
College: Letters & Science
Major: Linguistics/German/Music (Not sure)

Classes:

Linguistics 5
Music 49A
German 1
Philosophy 3
IB 24 (Seminar)

Unit Count: 16

Notes(if any): Wheee?

Grade: Freshman
College: Engineering
Major: EECS

Classes:

CS61A
Math 53 (my counselor suggested taking Math 1B tho, even if I’ll get a 5 on AP Calc BC…)
History 127 AC
Chinese (not sure what level yet)

Unit Count: 16

Notes(if any): Could not attend CalSo. So… dunno if my classes are okay, or too hard? And should I listen to counselor’s advice on Math 1B? I’ve been hearing that class will destroy me. Literally.

^History 127AC is upper division…probably wouldn’t wanna take that first semester?

Sometimes upper division history courses are actually easier than their lower divs.

@jthunderz, just go with Math 53. Everybody will try to scare you into forgoing your AP credit. I was in the same situation, yet I was fine in Math 53 and enjoyed it. Besides, Math 1B’s reputed to be a brutal class, and it seems like Math 1B’s the worse choice, actually.
