Post Your Schedule Thread!

@Jthunderz: I took the Math 1A/B track, and I think it’s true that 1B can get pretty tough. If you’re good at math, you’ll still get the A. Bear in mind that 1B is known as a “weeder” so it’s probably harder than it needs to be. I thought I was going to get an A-/B+ since I averaged an 84 on the midterms, but I got an A! (Quizzes helped a lot!) It’s doable. :]

Since you’re in engineering, you need to finish 53/54 so you could just get ahead and do it. I don’t believe 53 builds on 1B, but I may be wrong…

I suggest you self-study/re-familiarize yourself with concepts such as trig-substitution, integration by parts, and in general, know the unit circle and identities. These are the only things you need to take into Math 53 from Math1B/Calculus BC. Series doesn’t show up until Math 54 and you can re-learn that on your own. Don’t take Math 1B unless Math 53 is killing you at the beginning of the semester, but it shouldn’t.

Wow, thanks for all the help! And if series isn’t needed until Math 54, then I’m all for Math 53! Series was the one thing I was hoping wasn’t in Math 53 since my Calc teacher didn’t do a good job going over it.

@KevRus: Really? I didn’t know that. So I’m assuming at Berkeley, undergrad classes are under 100 and do not start with 101s?

Here’s my revised schedule. Is it doable? Hard?

CS 61A - should be prepared, since I got 5 on AP Comp Sci A, which Berkeley doesn’t take
Math 53 - after all the suggestions
Geography 70AC - replacing History 127AC
Chinese

Did you AP out of Physics 7A? If you didn’t, I think taking it first semester would be a good call. You should be fine with CS61A, Math 53, and Physics 7A if you took the AP counterparts in high school. I can’t really advise you on CS61A though, I’m taking it this summer. Haha.

What do you think of my sched, eye?

From first post:

@Sagert

If you took AP Chem and AP Physics in high school, then I think you’re solid. There are actually a lot of people who never took the AP counterparts to those classes in high school so even if you didn’t, you wouldn’t have too much to worry about. In terms of workload, it’s your standard engineering schedule: three technical and a humanities.

In terms of teachers, I suggest taking Yildiz for 7A. I had him last semester and his questions were straight out of lecture… with that said, I never went to lecture, but still did well in that class since the lectures were on BSpace. haha. As for Math 54, I’m taking it next semester, so if you’re taking Holtz, I’ll be in your class. :]

Yeah, they don’t offer AP Chem at our school, but I did take Chem honors and also learned some more chem material when I was studying for the Chem SAT. I did take AP Physics tho.

Hrm, I’d take Yildiz but his lecture time is exactly the same as Holtz’s. And I really don’t want Voiculescu as a lecturer too(it’s obvious that his class is not very good when there’s around ~250 signed up for Holtz atm compared to his ~30). So yea, I guess it’s Lin for me? And cooool, I think you’ll be quite the interestin’ guy when I meet you, haha

@Ramblinman: I just looked up the course description for E92, and it’s really interesting…I guess if I have a choice, I’ll take that along with the other classes I listed too. Thanks!

Grade: Freshman
College: Engineering
Major: EECS

Classes:
CS61A
CS70
Physics 7A
English R1A

Unit Count: 16

Notes(if any): Considering taking History 24 as well, but I dunno if I can handle those 17 units right off the bat. Well, I don’t even know how well those 16 will go.

I might pass out of R1A depending on my pending AP/IB exams, but I don’t know for sure. Should I still Phase I it at CalSO? Take it 1st semester at all?

Grade: Freshman
College: Engineering
Major: EECS

Classes:
CS61A
Physics 7B
Math 1B
…

Unit Count: 12 for now.

Notes(if any): I don’t know what else to take. I got out of R&C A through AP, so should I choose something from the B list or take a science elective?

I want to minor or major in CS.
So, i need to take CS 61A. But I have no programming experience in high school, so do I need to take CS 3 in the first semester?

^That is what’s recommended.

[Sample Programs for Incoming CS Freshmen | EECS at UC Berkeley](http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/csugrad/freshman-samples.shtml)

Grade (at the time of taking the courses): Freshman
College: L&S
Major: MCB

Classes:

Chemistry 1A (for major)
Math 1A (for major)
Environmental Science 1 (breadth; perhaps minor)
Plant & Microbial Bio Seminar (interest; perhaps minor)
English Seminar (elective)

Unit Count: 4 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 14

Notes (if any): Should this be easily doable with labs and discussions for both Chem and Math? I know Chemistry is suppose to be awful, and Math hard, but still manageable…

Your classes are easily doable. Chem1A isn’t as bad as many people think it is, and plus, there will be a lot of freshmen in the dorms who will be taking Chem1A, so it’ll be a perfect opportunity to form study groups. Many of my friends had Professor Stacey, and she’s pretty good (you can check out her webcasts for Fall 2009). Math 1A should be fine if you did Calculus in high school; the only thing new (I think, when I looked at my friend’s assignments) was delta-epsilon proofs for limits. Seminars are light and are not too bad.

@monstertop

I’m not sure if they will care, but Physics 7B requires Math 53 as at least a co-requisite. Your schedule is do-able; three technical classes and a humanities will be a standard workload. If you can get out of Math 1B though, I suggest you do.

Grade(at the time of taking the courses): Freshmen
College: Engineering
Major: BioEngineering

Classes:

Chem 1A
Econ 1
Math 53
Engineering 7
BioE 24

Unit Count: 17

Notes(if any): Does this schedule seem doable? I heard that E7 is very difficult but I’m taking Math 54 this summer because I heard it helps. I’m also taking Stat 20 this summer because I’m interested in a double major in business and bioengineering hence why I’m taking Econ 1 as well. Any input would be great, thanks! :)

My Calso is tomorrow, but judging by current enrollment my chances of getting these look pretty good

Grade: Freshman
College: Natural Resources
Major: Conservation/Resource studies (probably)

Classes:
Math 16a (i already took AP calc ab, but this is all that’s required so I figured it’d be easy)
ESPM 6 or 2 based on availability (c12 is full)
LATAMST 10

Unit Count: 10 for calso, probably add one more major-related class phase ii based on availability.

@CaliUSA. Every single class you want to take is a technical class besides Econ 1. You may want to balance your first semester a bit with some social science or humanities classes. I’m only an incoming freshman so I can’t comment on course difficulty, but based on what others’ advice have been, your schedule appears to be extremely difficult. Good luck! =D

hey guys tell me wat u think of my schedule plz! =]

Grade(at the time of taking the courses): Freshman
College: Letters & Sciences
Major: Astrophysics and Physics

Classes:
Math 54 (Phase I)
Astronomy 7A (Phase I)
Physics H7A (Phase II)
Japan 1A (Phase II)

Unit Count: 17

Notes(if any): hmm… every1 tells me im gonna kill myself LOLZ. apparently all 4 r labelled “hard” classes but ya … its REALLY hard to schedule all this together cuz theres so many random discussions and labs to fit in hahah.

Also im wondering how im ever gonna fulfill the 7breadth courses 0.o i dun think ne of my classes rite now apply as one. zzzzz

@azngarydasnail:

That schedule is suicide. I would drop Japanese and replace it with a 2-3 unit breadth.
