Yah? Anyone else tired of constant threads about the same thing?
Not just freshmen, btw, because sometimes upperclassmen need help too. :)

I'll post my prospective one later as my CalSO date nears...

I like this idea, I’ll probably try for some help too when my CalSO nears. If only everyone would start posting here it would be good

Hi, I will be entering UC Berkeley as freshman in the fall and am planning on pursuing Poli Sci and Business Administration.

Currently, these are the classes I have been considering:
UGBA10 Robinson
ECON 1 Train (better than Olney who teaches in spring?)
POLISCI 3 Wittenberg (Never taught lower division, but had decently generous grades in upper division courses)
POLISCI 5 Gurowitz (I think she almost always teaches this class)

Does anyone have any feedback on any of these teachers? Is it not advisable to take UGBA and ECON at the same time?

I want to avoid Math16a and Stat21 in the fall as the teachers seem extremely difficult. I will fulfill those requirements later or take Math16a at BCC in the fall.

I have already fulfilled most of the Letters and Science requirements. I plan on taking ESPM 50ac in the spring (to fulfill PV breadth) and History 7ab (to fulfill AC, historical breadth, and polisci history prereq). My International breadth will most likely be taken care of as I pursue my PoliSci major. I am waiting back on my AP Lit exam and will enroll in R&C B in the Spring if I do not score a 5 (already tested out of R&C A). Everything else is pretty much taken care of.

Except Biological Science breadth…any ideas on an easy/light load class for this requirement? Biological science is not my strong subject and I don’t want to compete with all the crazy genius Bio kids.

Lastly, I am considering taking Statn21 online this summer with Stark. Has anyone heard/had experience with this online course/professor? I have no experience with statistics and am not confident in my ability, but I heard Stark is a better option than other Stat21 teachers? However, it is online… any ideas?

Any feedback on how to improve my schedule?

Sorry for the long post. Thank you verrrry much!

^^peaceofcake! wow we’re both going for BA and polisci! cooooool haha :)

Hi everyone,

I am an intended BA major going into Haas (hopefully) with interest in the polisci major also.
I was just wondering if my desired schedule seems manageable, too easy, too hard?

Econ1 - Train
Psych 1 - Kihlstrom
NutriSci 1 - The Staff*****
Poli Sci 1 - Citrin

****I was also considering Astro1 with Filipenkko (sp?)…would that be a better course for my over schedule? Thanks

Just a few things I have to consider regarding my schedule workload:

Thanks for posting in here

@ iloveny:

sweeeet. hopefully we’ll run into each other! haha

blehhh I hope doing both majors will be doable. I still want to have fun

Hey! I’m also planning on pursuing Political Science and Business. =)

The classes I’m currently considering are:
UBGA 10-Robinson (3 units) (prereq for haas)
Political Science 5-GUROWITZ (4 units) (prereq for poli sci also fulfills IS breadth)
Nutritional Science 10- Staff (3 units) (fulfills BS breadth)
Journalism Seminar (1 unit)
Physics for Presidents aka Physics C10 (3 units) (fulfills PS breadth)

My main concerns are:

also does haas allow statn21? if so, is it offered every summer?

Thanks!

So I have no idea what to do about my schedule. I’m an Architecture major and my CalSo is on Monday. I took AP Calc BC and I’m pretty damn confident about it. I had to take the writing requirement exam because I never took AP English and I was one point off from being exempt by taking the ACT. I’m pretty confident about the essay I wrote for that too. I’ve looked at the requirements pages and such, but I still don’t know where to start.

Can someone give me a lead?

It was a lot easier when they were all seperate threads…

peaceofcake:
Math 16a is not that bad (1a is the terrible one). No need to take at BCC.

An pretty straightforward bio breadth is Nutri Sci 10. Straight curve (ie 90% is A, 80% is B…) and multiple choice tests (lowest test dropped).

From what I hear, the online version of Stat 21 is an easy A if you work at it. However, if your goal is to actually learn statistics, the online version is definitely not the way to go.

I have no experience with the Pol Sci classes so I can’t help you there. For Econ, both Train and Olney are great teachers. As far as week-to-week coursework for Econ, there is not so much. UGBA 10 is a pretty shallow class (material depth-wise), but it is also pretty annoying. You have 5 tests and 4 essays so 9/15 weeks you have an assessment. The class is not that much work (compared to say, math 1a) but it is usually on the back of your mind.

I am not sure about this but you might not be able to get into all those classes.

iloveny: Your schedule seems fine. Regarding Astro10, you could flip it in or not. Maybe stick it in if you cannot get into one of your classes?

CF!: Physics for future presidents is curved so about 30% get A’s. I’m guessing that’s the part you care about.

Phase I: UGBA 10, Poli Sci 5, maybe Journalism seminar
I don’t see you having much trouble getting to physics or nutri sci but check the numbers. when you sign up for phase 1.

Online stat has been offered the past few but we cannot tell the future.

JOhkonut:
You should take:

Env. Design 1
R&C (college writing r1a if you fail/some other one if you pass)
Maybe two breadth like nutri sci 10 and psych 2

Hi everyone,

I’m pursuing a political science degree. My CalSO is tomorrow, so I’m pretty finalized on my schedule but I can always change my mind. Plus I already have 10 units picked out so any additions will wait until Phase II.

Astronomy C10 (discovery course, fulfills physical science breadth, taking it for awesomeness because apparently Filippenko is the man.)
Near Eastern Studies Seminar (Egyptian archeology one, pass/fail, taking for fun)
Pol Sci 5 (will this fulfill my major requirements as well as my breadth, for IS or HS?)
French 1

This is a total of 14 units. I wanted to take a relatively easy schedule to adjust to college life and have time to discover all of Cal’s organizations. However, is this TOO light?

how about this schedule:

FALL
astro c10
cs 61a
physics 7a
seminar (2, if possible)

SPRING
physics 7b
film studies r1a
ee 20n
espm 50ac

SUMMER
chem 1a and cs 61b equivalents at a cc

o___O… I’m not sure if its wise to take important classes like cs61 at a CC…

Also, if you’re in CoE, and you took AP Chem/AP Bio, you don’t need to take chem 1a :D

also… your Spring Schedule is impossible.
ESPM 50AC, Film R1A, Physics 7a are all Phase I classes, you’ll have to be super lucky with waitlists… :S

calso is just for scheduling fall classes right?

CalSO: Well, you’re introduced to the campus, you get to sleep in the dorms, you get some campus food, you meet people, I think you even hike… But the important part is registering for some of your fall classes.

Planning to be a chem bio major. Take a gander:

Chem 4A (4 units)
Math 53 (4 units)
German 1 (5 units, want to learn Deutsch )
Chem C96 (1 unit)
*R&C? (right now, I’m thinking French R1B (lots of the B R&C classes are taken. wah! REALLY depends on my AP score (expecting 4; 5 would be really nice; 3 or below: )) *

I’m considering not taking the R&C class this semester (literature’s not my forte anyway). I’m considering doing a decal. Is public opinion on decals good or bad? I read some good ones, and a bad one… I might also instead take an AC course if I don’t do so over the summer (really reconsidering now… and if my “file is incomplete” for financial aid…), just as long as it’s less than 4 units.

Would taking three sections in a row be recommended (German 1, followed by a math discussion, followed by Chem)? There are the 10 minute gaps I’ve heard about, but just wondering if this has ever been an additional source of stress (along with the millions of others I’ve heard from you guys :P).

Yeah, I like my sleep :P

dang tough load… wow. you got to take fewer courses.

what’s decal?

do you think stat21 with stark will be full by the time my calso comes around 12/13 of june?

out of 100 spots, 64 are already taken…
