Ok, its official, the finaid letter is obviously a likely, your 1960 sats are much too low for cornell, have fun at community college.

hmm, a bit too late; I (international student) already sent the materials again before their second email. Well, I guess it cannot be blamed on me :P

well....i did get a letter from the FA office a couple of weeks ago, and just yesterday i got a likely letter from Cornell. Coincidence maybe, but I thought I'd let you guys know.

Essays:
*I worked hard on them, so I, and others think they're good, but who knows?

wow i got a request email but my stats are WAYYY low for cornell. as in like super-reach-never-gonna-get-in-just-applying-for-fun low. (3.6uw, 4.0w, 1270/1870 SAT)

afro_ninj4.. they take more into account,, the whole picture.. so some "reaches" will get in... otherwise you could never diversify your student body and you would end up with all perfect score kids...

so, I propose in order to come to partial consensus for now (until of course decisions come) that we list the evidence for and against it, so that it's more organized, and people can counter argue specific points.

So based on what I've read, here's some evidence for and against it...you may try and refute for either side:

For:
-Why would they make packages for so many people?
-Most everyone that got it is qualified, or highly qualified for Cornell
-People have received this letter and then gotten in later on. Coincidence, or not?

Against:
-The FA department is disjointed from the admissions office.
-I know people that completely suck that got it.
-This is just wishful thinking brought about by the stress of college admissions.

lets start with this. Copy and paste that list and add your input so that this way it's more organized.
