Your schedule is not difficult at all. There are many tougher courses [in preparation for your engineering major] you will take within the next year. Tougher doesn't mean impossible though.

Here are a few challenging 1st-2nd courses / humps:
CS 31 (if you have no programming experience)
Chem 30A
Physics 4BL
Physics 1C (relativity .. )

These are the classes that I would rate a difficulty of 7 or higher. The rest is lower, so as long as you study, try hard to understand the concepts, and keep up, you have a decent shot at an A.

Your schedule is a typical engineering schedule, and even a proposed one from the HSSEAS I believe. Whatever they give is managable; some people even add on to it. So I think that you'll be okay. If you can't handle it, then you might consider dropping out of HSSEAS . (Sorry if this sounds discouraging, but it's true)

Look at it this way: it's your second quarter. Your major probably isn't set in stone yet. You're not in crazily-time-efficient majors like something within engineering where it would be imperative that you follow a specific sequence. Your courses satisfy a possible future Education minor and a bunch of GEs with some dabbling in Economics. You have 10 quarters after Winter. You're a freshman. Things change. Your courses are diverse in terms of interest and in terms of requirements. I think in the future, you should be fine for not taking four real courses during the Winter - esp. if there is any uncertainty on your part (and there seems that there is) and because you have some wiggle room at his point. In case your ambitions are BizEcon, you'd only want to do your best anyway instead of plowing through with mediocre/average grades but a high unit count and class standing. Which is the worthier investment?

Well, I'm currently pre biz-econ. And no, I'm quite certain I'll stick with this major, or something similar in the future. Yeah, after thinking about it, I might as well get high grades than push myself too much, resulting in lower grades.

And in terms of declaring majors, can you declare it any quarter? As in, if I finish all my pre-reqs by sophomore winter qtr, could I automatically enter the major?

It depends on when you complete the pre-reqs for XYZ major. Consult its specific requirements etc. about when to declare. Google "cis study area ucla."

You couldn't automatically enter BizEcon unless you were accepted. It's a different issue. For other majors, (e.g. History), as long as you complete the pre-reqs, you'd essentially be able to get in as long as you met the minimum GPA, etc. requirements.

i want to sign up for a couple of education classes, but they're restricted to education minors. but to become that minor you need to take 2 ed classes.

can non-education minors sign up for restricted education classes somehow???

are there any education minors out there?

Yes, liyana179. She's called... my roommate from last year and our very good art-major friend. Ask her!

My love, have you been using my French course site? Just wondering...

im thinking of dropping my GE cluster 66a (LA one), but don't know which GE i'll fulfill for this quarter...i checked my ursa page and it won't tell me although my friend checked for her cluster (which is different) and it told her specifically that she was fulfilling her historical analysis GE this quarter...
